when to tell school you are transferring?
if i transfer from school A to B, when do I need to let A know that I am transferring? or do they know automatically once i sign off on B's SIR?

Once you know you are transferring 100% for sure, then tell the school whenever you want. It would also be a good idea to tell the professors you like, especially those that wrote you letters of recs, that you are leaving. Basically, just don't burn bridges and you will be fine.

There is a definite deadline if you have already registered for Fall classes in order to withdraw/transfer without any financial penalty. Ask your current law school's Registrar.
