Chicago Transfer Admits 2012
Thought I'd start this for those heading to Chicago. Just put in my deposit yesterday. Anyone else deposited thus far? I'll be looking for a roommate if anyone is interested let me know. Haven't decided between living close to school (Hyde Park) or living North-side where I hear a lot of 2Ls and 3Ls live (downtown or Lincoln Park). Let me know if you have any suggestions.

August 16th and 17th. Then there's an OCI orientation on the 20th I believe - with OCI to follow for the next week or so.transferbound wrote:What are the dates for orientation?a11 1n wrote:I Just mailed my seat deposit this morning after much mulling. Ya the OCI week ruins the one vacation I planned for myself this summer lol. Hopefully it pays off in future vacations.

One thing to be aware of if you live outside of Hyde Park is that UChicago doesn't participate in the UPass program so you're going to have to pay for a CTA Pass.tjb24 wrote:Thought I'd start this for those heading to Chicago. Re: Chicago Transfer Admits 2012
Congrats to the new transfers! (Recent transfer grad here, procrastinating bar exam studying.) For those not living in Hyde Park, here's commute info:
#2 Bus- Runs from downtown and stops right in front of the school. Only runs between like 7-9:30am and 4-6pm. Last bus leaves back to downtown at like 6:03pm, so if you have a 4-6 class, you need to hustle. It can also get pretty crowded on days it rains or snows, so catch an earlier bus than you normally do, because it will be absorbing people who decide not to drive that day.
#6 Bus- Runs pretty much 24/7 from hyde park to downtown. Stops at 60th & Stony Island, so it can be a long .5 mile hike with heavy law books.
Driving- I drove most days from the south loop to school, but parking on the street surrounding the school fills up by 8:15 or so in the morning, so you have to get there early. It's definitely possible to find spots throughout the day, but you could circle for 20 minutes or so before you do. The lot behind the law school opens for free parking at 3:30pm, but I've been known to park there when I can't find another spot, and never got a ticket. Maybe I just got lucky. Also, you can't park on the Midway if there is more than 2'' of snow on the ground.
Metra- The Metra Electric Line is also about .5 miles from school, and stops at various points in downtown. I never took that though, but had a friend that did.

They'll only give it to you if you have a netid. I tried for a couple of weeks but as soon as I sent an email from my uchicago address I got it within a couple hours.transferbound wrote:Has everybody recieved their Symplicity login info? I emailed Career Services earlier this week and haven't heard back. Wondering if I should just call them instead!

I called OCS and spoke to someone who said they were awaiting a list from admissions department of transfer students that have submitted their seat deposits. She said to expect a whole slew of emails shortly.

I had this issue as an ED admit. Once you get your netid they'll give you a login. You don't need to wait for them.a11 1n wrote:I called OCS and spoke to someone who said they were awaiting a list from admissions department of transfer students that have submitted their seat deposits. I set-up my netid but did not get a response from them so I called. They ended up sending the Symplicity log-in and all the emails from OCS over the summer on Friday to myself and a handful of other students who I imagine make up the transfer class to this point.jbiresq wrote:I had this issue as an ED admit. For those of you still waiting, the emails were sent to 8 uchicago.edu email addresses on Friday, the date the seat deposits needed to be post-marked by. Make of that what you will.

Did anyone make law review/get an offer for another journal? Was I the only one who did the write-on?
