UCLA transfer thread 2012
Created for all us to join and obsess over when we will get our answer.
My states are Tier 2 in Socal top 15%. Do not know if I am really going to get in, however, the admission office said I was competitive and I had a former adcomm look over my personal statement and they said it was good so who knows.
Anyone else joining this boat?

Rank is not released yet but historically with a 3.762 I should be around ~8%. I am currently at a early 40's ranked school out of state but I am still a california resident.
No idea what I should expect. We shall see!

Apply broadly...not a lot of apps. I feel a lot of people in top 10% skip over UCLA...dtl wrote:Rank is not released yet but historically with a 3.762 I should be around ~8%. I am currently at a early 40's ranked school out of state but I am still a california resident.

Epic. I would pick UCLA just because of location and by the fact that I can send hate mail to all my friends that go to USC....But I am currently in at GWU so not the same choice.Lasers wrote:in this boat as well.

Are you at Hastings? What % are you? Why do u want out? What is the low down on Hastings?

yeah, i have the same concerns. not only that, but it seems like such a quick turnaround to do bids for OCI/ sign up for classes.jarofsoup wrote:ARe they really not going to notify until the end of July.... I cannot get my shit together that late to move...

Re: UCLA transfer thread 2012
a transfer i asked last year said they were notified late june, so it could be earlier. i guess it depends largely on when you apply as well.jarofsoup wrote:Do they actually notify that late? Re: UCLA transfer thread 2012
I submitted early last week and got in today.
I was so overjoyed and surprised that I am sure I sounded like a bumbling idiot on the phone when they called.
Anyway - they are absolutely already making decisions!

Soliciting some advice - I'm within the top 5% at Davis and am currently undecided on whether I should apply to UCLA. I'd like a clerkship and SoCal biglaw, both of which are hard to come by at Davis. But do you guys think resetting my GPA and going to UCLA gives me a better shot?

Re: UCLA transfer thread 2012
honestly, i think top 5% and law review at davis will probably be better suited to get clerkship/socal big law. send out your materials to any socal firm not attending OCI at davis.in_reverie wrote:Soliciting some advice - I'm within the top 5% at Davis and am currently undecided on whether I should apply to UCLA. from what i've read, transferring doesn't help for OCI since they'll just use your 1L grades anyway.
EDIT: if you're looking to transfer (which i probably would if i were you), target berkeley.

You should be looking at Cal and Stanford. But you may have missed the deadlines, but sometimes they will take applications. I think that you should hit up the top 14...

3.76 from a t40. Had a compelling reason and a 4.0 first semester with family illness in second. Not sure If that made any difference. Top 10% exactly but I never gave them my rank only my GPA.

Nice man. Sorry to hear about the family illness. I am in the same boat, got a 4.0 second semester though.
