t4; Ranked 2 / 250; 3 Book Awards; Transfer?
Currently at a t4. Ranked 2 out of 250+ kids. Booked 3 classes. (after first semester)
I am applying to
GULC EA
WUSTL EA
Northwestern
UIllinois (Instate tuition if admitted)
Should I even spend the money on Chicago ED?
Anyone from the last couple years make the t4 to Gtown leap? Advice?
Recommendations on going or staying if I get admitted to any of these schools? My current school has already said their merit scholarship system for the 2L and 3L year caps out at 28k (tuition is 34k). Even if you're ranked 1

Blanket T6 and honestly it might be better to wait for GULC RD. If you get in EA, you might waste $1000 on a seat deposit when you hear back that you were accepted to Columbia, NYU, dare I say...Harvard...etc.
TLSers may disagree with me, so take my advice for what it is...my advice...not everyone else's

CLS isn't that bad. Stop being a striver.

I know for a fact CLS took top-of-their class t4 students...I don't think that's a comment on CLS being "bad."Veyron wrote:CLS isn't that bad. Stop being a striver.

I was in a similar position 1L year, top 1% at TTTT. Deferred by Georgetown for EA. Blanket the T-14 and a couple should bite. If accepted ANYWHERE, definitely transfer even if your current school wines and dines you with scholarship offers, you won't regret it.

Harbor - Did Gtown accept you after the deferral? Where did you end up transferring to?

No clue, I withdrew all my applications once I heard back from Berk, which was the first school to accept me. Berk accepted two students from our TTTT. As you're aware, the transfer process is a complete crapshoot.IsTheFatLadySinging wrote:Harbor - Did Gtown accept you after the deferral? Where did you end up transferring to?

Well considering there are only 13 of them, this seems unrealistic. From the yahoo group, it doesn't look like any T3/T4 students even have a shot at the T10 without being #1-5 in their class after the first year. And who knows how many of those applicants they get. There are a lot of T3/T4 schools.Indifferent wrote:you can get into substantially better schools than GULC.

Im #2 at semester, Ill make sure to let everyone know what happens. I decided to apply to GULC EA (already sent), NYU, CLS, Mich, Northwestern, Chicago, Boalt, and Stanford. I will probably do WUSTL and UIllinois stillMce252 wrote:Well considering there are only 13 of them, this seems unrealistic. Re: t4; Ranked 2 / 250; 3 Book Awards; Transfer?
The lowest ranked schools among the transfer class at CLS this year include borderline TT/TTT schools like NYLS, Hofstra, St. Johns, Seton Hall, etc. I don't think there are any T4 schools, and most everyone comes from T1 schools.
As such, you should still apply to C/N, but forget about Chicago and Harvard, and Stanford. They take most of their transfers from T14/T1.
Aim for C/N, Mich., Penn, berkley (if you are in/from Cali), Cornell, and GULC. Your sweet spot is probably around T10-T14, but of course it doesn't hurt to apply to some of the T10 schools with bigger classes.
EA isn't a bad idea but yeah they might rope you in with the $1000 seat deposit. OTOH, its useful to get your LORs and stuff in early.
BTW, make sure you get your LOR form the professors you booked.

Vronsky - Would you recommend to transfer if admitted anywhere in the t14?

Probably, given your scholarship situation, but it depends on things like market and career goals and such.IsTheFatLadySinging wrote:Vronsky - Would you recommend to transfer if admitted anywhere in the t14?
Also I can't tell if you are west coast or middle america - but you should probably drop the lower ranked schools on your list like WUSTL and Illinois, and add UCLA/USC/Vandy depending on location and market interest.
The best thing to do is to choose wisely the schools you apply to (to limit costs and not waste app fees on schools you have no shot at or that would not be worth it) and then decide over the summer. I came to the conclusion eventually that I would turn down GULC and stay at my NYC-area TT rather than transfer because of proximity and access to NY biglaw given my class rank and LR, but then I was accepted T6 and that was a different story.

Whatever went over my head, I still don't get it. From the way I read it...and telling me or him to quit being a "striver"...I thought s/he was saying CLS was out of reach...oh well.stratocophic wrote:*whoosh*Coolgrnmen wrote:I know for a fact CLS took top-of-their class t4 students...I don't think that's a comment on CLS being "bad."Veyron wrote:CLS isn't that bad.
