Top 10% at BC into T14?
I finished the first semester at BC with 3.67 (A- in contracts/torts/property) - want to know if I have any chance of getting into any of the T14 schools? Just for numbers - my LSAT was 163, UGPA 3.88...
thanks in advanced!

There is a poster here, Kaiser, who was top 10% at either BC or BU, I can't remember which (or maybe he didn't say), and I believe got into NYU and Penn.

i'm not 100% set on any of the schools - i just feel that i need to get into a higher ranked school if i want to compete...ideally would love H/Y/NYU but i don't think that would happen, but maybe i could have a chance at GULC/etc.?

From what I've read I'm pretty sure you have a fair shot.

Personally, I don't think GULC is worth it. If your goal is BigLaw, their placement isn't stellar enough to justify the debt.
It might only be worth it if 1)DC is your target and 2)your not forgoing any scholly money at BC. Even then, though, being a big fish at a smaller pond might give you an edge.
I am in a similar position to you (~5% at T23) and think that xferring is only worth it for T10.

Top 10% at Boston College should get several T-14 offers, but not H,Y or S, in my opinion.

H and Y are probably out unless you move up a bit. NYU would be in play at top 10%, though, from BC.lawschool44 wrote:i'm not 100% set on any of the schools - i just feel that i need to get into a higher ranked school if i want to compete...ideally would love H/Y/NYU but i don't think that would happen, but maybe i could have a chance at GULC/etc.?

Lower T14 isn't worth making the transfer -- you should be aiming for CCN. You're within the range they accept but still a somewhat borderline candidate, so a lot will depend on Spring grades. Start thinking about LORs and get your apps done early.
I would also prepare an app for HLS just in case. You won't have a chance unless you book every class this semester, but you never know.

Are you sure that is top 10%? Sounds like you might be 2 or 3 students below, and that cutoff matters to schools like Chicago.

As a BU student with Top 10% who struck out OCI, along with 3 other friends with similar grades, I respectfully disagree.concurrent fork wrote:Lower T14 isn't worth making the transfer -- you should be aiming for CCN.

Man that's harsh, sorry to hear it. I was told that a good number of transfers into GULC struck out too, so it's hard to say whether it would have improved your chances by much. I don't know the success rates from Cornell or UVA, they might make a bigger difference (although one takes a very tiny class and the other requires residency).Cupidity wrote:As a BU student with Top 10% who struck out OCI, along with 3 other friends with similar grades, I respectfully disagree.concurrent fork wrote:Lower T14 isn't worth making the transfer -- you should be aiming for CCN.

3.67 at BC (assuming the same curve as last year's 1L class) would be top ~6-7%.Cupidity wrote:Are you sure that is top 10%? Sounds like you might be 2 or 3 students below, and that cutoff matters to schools like Chicago.
OP, the question is how did your objective memo scores turn out?
