I'll be a 1L at UMich in about two weeks. For reasons that are personal, I am not looking forward to relocating to AA and anticipate putting in a few transfer applications after grades come out. Obviously, this plan is contingent on doing well at Michigan. I am aware of the fact that everyone at Michigan is likely to be smart and industrious, and that accordingly everyone is going to plan on being in the top 10%. If you are going to reply to this post reminding me of this fact, please save your time.
I've looked around the interwebs briefly, but it doesn't seem that there's a statistically significant data set for T10-T10 transfers. I'm hoping someone can confirm such a set does not exist, or point me in the right direction. It would be great to have some numbers to look at; presently the only real precedents I have to base my expectations on are anecdotal.
It would be nice also to know how law schools look at 'personal reasons' (ie, wanting to be near family, significant other, etc) when reviewing transfer applications, as opposed to more professionally oriented reasons. Indeed, if I do well enough at Michigan to consider transferring up, it renders the argument that I want to move to elevate my job prospects moot.

Hmmm. I'm going to ask the obvious, potentially unhelpful and/or irritating question:
Have you considered simply not starting this year? Dunno if going to a place with the intention of transferring from it is the best idea--especially when you've already acknowledged the "obstacle" to this your classmates may represent. Are you comfortable enough with Michigan to stay there if you have to? If not, maybe don't go?
