Re: NYU Transfer c/o 2013
I've been able to get on since... I guess sometime last week. Submitted my intent to enroll form that way.
Anyone know when/how we're going to get our NetIDs?
Anyone know when/how we get the results of the housing application?
Anyone interested in / have opinions about renting off-campus?

To answer your questions.
1) They told me it takes 7-14 days after you submit they process the intent to enroll for you to get the netid. They told me mine processed on the 26th and I have not received it yet.
2) We cannot apply for housing until we have the netIDs it seems. They told me that the process is rolling as people submit applications. They also told me there are still random bedrooms left in some 2-3 bedroom apartments.
3) I would be interested in off-campus housing if nothing else works out... getting nervous.

Re: NYU Transfer c/o 2013
Took me a few days after my acceptance to be able to access the admitted students site.
I rent off-campus in Jersey City. I'm a 13 min PATH ride from the school (the stop in NYC is just a few blocks from NYU), the train runs 24 hours, and costs less than a subway ride. Best part is, I pay half of what NYU charges for housing. I'd definitely recommend the Jersey City area for NYU students. Really nice downtown area to it, and very safe. Let me know any questions you have about housing in this area.
Haven't gotten the Net-ID yet.

Decision letter sent on 7/19.
Good to hear there may be rooms left in the apartments, although I am thinking I may want to live off-campus, anyway. Lower rent is appealing. Thanks for the Jersey City recommendation, kaiser. I'll look into it.

No problem. I'm a Jersey native, so I am very familiar with the area, and I'm happy to answer any Q's about it.odiero wrote:Decision letter sent on 7/19.

I'm confused. They gave us our University ID numbers, but when I try to use it to start up my NYU Home Account, it says that it isn't a valid NetID, and that we shouldn't be using our University ID numbers in that field. So what other number would we use?
Edit: Forget it. I figured it out

You have to click the "Don't know my NETId" link, which will allow you to use the University Number to get a NetID. The University ID isn't actually your NETID. Let me know if it works for you in the end. Once I made my password, it now won't let me login.

Didn't work for me either.

an NYU password. As a result, you may not use the NYU Start Page."

Yeah - I think they have some things they need to work out... IT told me that none of us are labeled as current students yet or something.kaiser wrote:Didn't work for me either.

Huh. At least there's been some change.
ms2010, your intent to enroll form was processed on the 26th, right? Kaiser, when was yours processed? Hopefully I'll have my University ID in a couple of days (form processed on the 29th). Of course, according to y'all's accounts it won't do me much good.

The on-campus housing office just informed me that there was absolutely nothing available at this time. Has anyone actually managed to secure on-campus housing?

Right. The need to secure off-campus housing with a move-in date of <10 days without having an opportunity to get within 500 miles of the city is a huge problem right now. It's probably influencing my whether-to-attend calculus more than it should.ms2010 wrote:Great. They said last week they weren't full yet. They essentially told me that there's a waitlist, but I should have off-campus housing already lined up in case that didn't work out.

Not sure if you are familiar with the area, but Brooklyn, or Jersey City/Hoboken will provide you much closer access to NYU than Queens.odiero wrote:Looking for places in Queens.

I have personal reasons for being close to LGA, though. And if I'm right on the EFMR lines, I don't think it'd be that bad. Looks like 30 min on train to NYU? Doesn't sound too bad....
Certainly not categorically opposed to Brooklyn or Jersey City, though. Looked around for places in Jersey City and found some pretty good deals. Also keep hearing that it's pretty nice there.

Yeah the downtown area is awesome (the Grove Street area, NOT the Journal Square area). The ride was about 12-13 min to NYU. Safe area also, which was pretty important to me, since my walk is about 6 or 7 min to the PATH station.odiero wrote:Yeah, I'm seeing that's the case.kaiser wrote:Not sure if you are familiar with the area, but Brooklyn, or Jersey City/Hoboken will provide you much closer access to NYU than Queens.odiero wrote:Looking for places in Queens.

See what I mean? Half the price of most NYU housing, in a wonderful area, with easy access to the school, yet NYU would NEVER advertise these options since the $$ doesn't come back to them.odiero wrote:Found sweet 3-br a 5 min walk from Grove Street PATH station. $900/month/roommate.Yeah the downtown area is awesome (the Grove Street area, NOT the Journal Square area). Re: NYU Transfer c/o 2013
Well, the NYU housing is $1200ish/month, no? (And they have a bunch of resources for people who are looking for off-campus housing: http://www.law.nyu.edu/housing/offcampu ... /index.htm.kaiser wrote:See what I mean? Still sizeable difference, though, you're right. And really quite convenient.
Of course, looks pretty easy to get 6 or 700/month in Queens....
