Re: Final Transfer Stats 2011
T20, Top 1-2%, LR, 3 CALIs
LSAT: 169, undergraduate school rank: #1
Yale - rejected 7/21
Harvard - rejected 7/27
Columbia - incomplete (found out 7/29 that they never received transcript or dean certification after pestering them for several weeks) ... now throwing in the towel
Well, this cycle was even less fun than last year's. Submitted all my applications very late in the game (we got grades back fairly late). I guess I'd like to think that's what the problem was...

Not sure there was a problem. You would very likely have got CLS but HYS are always more of a black box.Mogulman wrote:T20, Top 1-2%, LR, 3 CALIs

For sure. No expectation of getting into any of them. I'm just disappointed about the mixup at CLS and thinking it might be due to submitting late.

Re: Final Transfer Stats 2011
T-35, 3.97 GPA, Top 2%, Law Review
Yale: Rejected
Harvard: Rejected
Stanford: Rejected
Chicago: Accepted and attending
It seems to have been a tougher cycle for transferring this year. It also probably did not help that there were eight people from my old law school putting in transfer applications.

Re: Final Transfer Stats 2011
1L School: Philly-area T2 (Nova/Rutgers/Temple; though I've "outed" my school in other threads)
GPA: ~3.79 (estimated top 4-6% based on Honors cut-offs, no official rank)
No top grade awards
Secondary journal (grade-on); did not try out for Moot Court/Mock Trial
LSAT: 165
Undergrad GPA: 2.85
5 years post-undergrad WE
Cycle officially over:
Columbia - OUT
Chicago - OUT (ED)
NYU - OUT
Penn - OUT
Michigan - IN (Attending)
Berkeley - OUT
Northwestern - IN
Cornell - IN
Georgetown - IN (RD)
Thoughts: my transfer cycle was actually not unpredictable and generally straightforward. I did extremely well at the lower T14 and no so much at CCN. I do think earlier applications to CLS/NYU could have changed my fortunes as I just assumed I'd be rejected (and maybe I would have anyway). Also, I'm betting my Penn rejection had a lot to do with a slew of applications from my school (and two people with higher GPA's then me are attending next year). I probably would have attended Cornell if they hadn't pulled the OCI BS since I want BigLaw in the northeast. However, I'm extremely pleased to be attending Michigan and I think I generally outperformed my numbers .
Advice to future transfers: apply early and broadly and don't underestimate yourself. Also, write targeted personal statements. I think this was partially how I managed to do better than my numbers would indicate. Also prepare to spend $$$ on seat deposits. I had to deposit at Georgetown before getting accepted to MNC; especially since I thought at the outset that would be my only T14 acceptance.

Re: Final Transfer Stats 2011
1L School: 50s
GPA: 3.670 (7/132, top 5%)
Awards: Mock Trial, Moot Court, 2 CALIs
Journal: Law Review
FINAL RESULTS
NYU - IN (Attending)
Columbia - OUT
Fordham - OUT
Penn - OUT
GW - IN
Georgetown - Waitlisted
I don't know how much advice I can supply since I was incredibly confused by my entire transfer cycle. I think a tough curve at your school hurts you at some schools more than others. I also think late grades from your school can hurt you in the end. I'm incredibly happy with how it turned out, but be prepared for some unpredictable results.

Re: Final Transfer Stats 2011
These results demonstrate well that transfer admissions is even more of a black box. If LSN had a scatter chart for transfers, it wouldn't be very helpful...
My numbers:
Current Law School: NYLS #135 (Tier 3)
Undergraduate GPA: 3.0 (applied to law school as 0L with 2.79, last semester bumped me up)
Undergraduate School rank: Tier 3?
LSAT: 158
1L GPA: 3.44
1L Class Rank: 96/484 (Top 20%)
Honors: Dean's List (is that REALLY an award? lol)
Admitted: Boston University
Denied: GULC (EA deferred, denied early summer), Fordham
Choice: BU!

Re: Final Transfer Stats 2011
#1/267 at MSUCOL (#95). 5 JPs/CALIs.
NYU: In (WD)
Michigan: In (Attending)
BC: In (WD).
Transfer cycle went well, considering I attended MSUCOL with the goal of transferring to Michigan. Wondering a bit if I should have applied to HLS or CLS. Still, I might have picked Michigan anyway.

Hey, my subpar grades and significantly longer list of rejections totally didn't kill your chances :pTransferthrowaway wrote:It also probably did not help that there were eight people from my old law school putting in transfer applications.

Re: Final Transfer Stats 2011
Current School: T2 (Miami)
Top 4%, Law Review, Two Book Awards
Admitted: UF
Waitlisted: Gtown, de facto at Cornell
Rejected: Duke, NYU, Columbia
Miami did not give out their grades and rank until very late June, so my transcripts and other documents didn't get to some schools until mid-July, and even then I had issues about having to resend documentation. I think that this is basically why everything went so poorly - I think I would have probably gotten into at least Georgetown and Cornell if all of my materials had been received earlier. For future transfers, if your school has a time line like this, you need to be incredibly aggressive about applying very early and making sure that your school sends things as soon as possible. I think I also would have applied more broadly. Good luck to everyone next year.

Re: Final Transfer Stats 2011
School: Wisconsin, T35
GPA: 3.69, rank: top 5%. From the Bay Area.
GULC: In (ED Waitlisted, RD accepted)
Berkeley: In (attending)
Stanford: Out (after a long wait)
Because Berkeley accepted their students SO early, without requiring official transcripts, I was able to avoid applying to the other T14's I was not as interested in (like NYU, Columbia, Michigan, Duke, Northwestern, etc). As such I will never know how I would have done had I applied across the T14 board. I chose not to apply to H or Y.

Great data in here. Unfortunately, it makes me feel like I didn't apply to enough schools. This is seriously unpredictable.
