Input Needed... Please Help!
I've been accepted to every school this week that I have applied to as a transfer student...
Stats - T3 in the South; Top 25%; Dean's List; Working in NYC this summer.
Penn St. - ACCEPTED
Miami - ACCEPTED
Rutgers/Newark - ACCEPTED
Brooklyn - ACCEPTED
Cardozo - ACCEPTED
UNC (in-state) - ???
So I'm still waiting to hear from UNC. I was originally waitlisted last year. Of course UNC's ranking and the money I would save on tuition speaks for itself. It is pretty much a no-brainer if I get in to UNC to attend UNC.
If I don't get into UNC... Is Cardozo worth +70k a year? I love the school, love the city, totally want to live and work in the city. But, is Cardozo going to be worth the extra money?
I'm honestly not quite sure what happened with my cycle... I wasn't really expecting to get into all of these places. It's great that it has turned out this way, but it's time to make some hard choices.
I also just found out this week that my mother is having health issues (cancer). So this obviously has an impact on my decision now, seeing as though my family lives in NC. This would make UNC an even better choice, should things work out there.
Can someone who might have been in an experience like this before, offer some help/guidance/advice? I would appreciate it. Still trying to sort the news of the past week out.. Thanks so much!

These are all heavily regional schools, meaning that in general they will place people close to the school upon graduation.. so I would go where you are most interested in living after graduating. If you are on scholly at the T3 you are at and like the area, this could make this a questionable move I think (though probably UNC at least would be worth it IMO, especially since you seem to want to be in NC for family).

To me Cardozo would be worth it, but it might be different for you. I am sorry to hear about your mother. It might make it harder for you to focus on school being far vs. being near. I don't really know what I would do in that regard. But, if you want to work in NYC I would probably guess it could be worth it. I, too, applied to Cardozo, but have heard nothing for going on 3 weeks (and I have really no idea why - how long were you in review?), so congrats. Good luck with getting UNC as well.

I was in review for 3 days... All of my material was in to admissions back in May, but a professor was 7 weeks late turning his grades in, so my app went complete last Monday when the transcript was sent. Best of luck to you! Hope you hear something soon.Zazelmaf wrote:To me Cardozo would be worth it, but it might be different for you. I am sorry to hear about your mother. To the above posters... I'm not on scholarship at all at the Tier 3, and they are not offering money to keep me there.

How soon do places need a deposit, and how's your app coming along at UNC? UNC is obviously your top choice, so holding out as long as you can until you hear from them is probably worth it (even if you do end up having to eat a deposit somewhere else).

OP: when you say "working in NYC this summer," what exactly do you mean? If you can get the job you want from your current school, I don't see any reason to transfer. Especially since none of the schools you're accepted to in the NY area are known for placing in biglaw.

Working in NYC = working in the entertainment industry in talent rep. I networked like hell to get this job from contacts I had before I went to law school... The position I have will likely not lead to anything within the company, but could definitely be a spring board for other stuff in the city.

I would say no to Miami and Penn state. Im from PA and Penn state really only has sway in PA, and only partial sway in Philly at that because of all of the other schools there. As for Miami, I got in there last year. When I visited, I got the serious impression that people didnt really leave south FL after graduation. At all. Ever. Thats my two cents, Im considering Cardozo for transfer as well, but I have no feeling for it yet.
