Telling People You're Transferring
How are you doing it? Phone calls, disappearing without a trace, mass 'See you all in Hell' facebook status. I'm thinking I might fake my own death.

A fellow in my section sent out an email to the section saying goodbye. I thought it was classy.

Re: Telling People You're Transferring
Assuming a section is 80+ students, I doubt that many people gave a shit. Send an email to your friends, not to an entire section of people - many of which probably didn't do well enough to transfer.lawgod wrote:explain?beach_terror wrote:SUPER DOUCHEYlawgod wrote:A fellow in my section sent out an email to the section saying goodbye. Section was 65. We were all pretty tight; we were a good section.beach_terror wrote:Assuming a section is 80+ students, I doubt that many people gave a shit. Re: Telling People You're Transferring
My section was about 95. A bunch of us are transferring to different schools (5-6 last I checked), so whoever from our section that's still in town is just gonna meet for happy hour the last week we're all here.
I won't miss this city or this school, but I'll miss (most of) my section. We were a good bunch.

Change the LS email group to "spam". Also, send out a christmas card of yourself in front of new school, preferably standing with a prominent faculty member from new school.
Or just write a personal note (on real paper) to everyone you actually respected/worked with saying you would like to stay in touch.

People who read TLS found out about my acceptances (along with my friends that I told). Should have done a transfer alt

I'm sending an invite on FB to hit the bar on my last night in town. Leave it up to them.

Re: Telling People You're Transferring
I told my closer friends individually (a combination of in person, gchat, and texts), and then I put up a Facebook status update so people I wasn't too close could could find out. I was actually surprised by some of the nice things people said in reply to it.
You should definitely tell the people you were semi-close to, don't just disappear unless you really had no friends (which would just be sad...)

Tell close friends and then let them do the rest.

I haven't even thought about how to tell people. What about the school? Do you just fill out a form and be done with it?

If I decide to leave, I will graciously turn over my identity to a T3 student who wants a fair shake in life.
Ala the movie Gattaca.

Hmmm (SPOILERS) that didn't quite end so well for one of the parties involved in that movie but I like the idea.

Re: Telling People You're Transferring
Exact same thing happened to me, surprisingly enough. Emailed my close law school friends, updated my "education" on fb a few days later. I kept pretty quiet about potentially transferring so it came as a shock to a few people. But no negative feedback so far.bmic wrote:I told my closer friends individually (a combination of in person, gchat, and texts), and then I put up a Facebook status update so people I wasn't too close could could find out. Re: Telling People You're Transferring
One of the D-bag from my old school listed all the schools he applied to on his FB so I guess we all now know he is transferring.

Re: Telling People You're Transferring
Told closer friends via text or e-mail. Pretty much everyone in the school knew I wanted out, anyway (which is BAD, but whaddaya gonna do). Put up a general "well, looks like I'll be at _____ next year." Was also really surprised by some of the nice responses from people I didn't know all that well.

I've got a few roommates. None of them will be back from their summer gigs before I'm gone. Should I write them thoughtful goodbye letters or just upper deck them?

It depends on how you feel about them.

Lol same for me.. though I guess at this point I don't particularly care, and it did help to break the ice on the topic lol (suddenly everyone seemed to know that I was transferring and the school I will probably end up at)..
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
