How high should I aim?

Post by bceagles182 » Wed Jun 08, 2011 3:51 pm

Want big law in Boston, New York, or DC

Top 8% at T2 in the 80s at a certain school that dropped from the 60s this year :x

Got straight A's second semester in four classes with one nasty B in a five credit course which killed an otherwise perfect GPA.

I've already applied to Georgetown, BC, BU

Columbia/NYU worth a shot? Anywhere else?

Thanks for the advice. I was a paralegal at a V5 so I know exactly what I'm getting myself into.

Excellent! So you're good at giving blow jobs. We could use a few people like you over here.

lol.

I would just apply to as many east coast T14s as you can.

I would also recommend that you look into how many BC/BU transfers actually get biglaw.

aim at more t14s + vandy ucla/texas. Apply to everything MVP down to vandy ucla usc.

Then add BU/BC.

Why would he go to USC, UCLA or Texas for NY, DC or Boston biglaw?

Almost assuredly better than his T2.

No shot at Columbia or NYU. Focus on the rest of the T14. Good luck.

I think you need to be a Texas resident to get into Texas. Not sure about Vandy (though they talk about compelling reasons to be in Nashville on their website). I'm also pretty sure I read BU/BC don't take many, but I assume you are from there, so that will probably help. UCLA does take a ton of transfers, though.

I'm actually in a similar position (though I might be more around top 4-6%, and I'm targeting NY/NJ/PA). I've been trying to figure out if some of the non-T14's are worth apps or not (I think GW may be worth it for IP people, but not the rest of us). Right now I'm applying to CNPMNCG, but I don't know if I'll hit any of them. Though staying at my school and with my friends and my scholarship seems okay by me, and I don't feel as much of a need to make a move as I did a few months ago (my school is also in the region I want to live/work/my hometown).

You are unlikely to land biglaw as a transfer into BC/BU, especially if your T2 is in a different market (sounds like it is).

I think Texas is big on having a compelling reason to go there. Last year a few people broke the T6 and were from Texas but still didnt get into UT.

Top 8% at Villanova makes BC, BU & Georgetown likely to accept you as a transfer. If you are looking beyond the Philly area, then make the move.

P.S. No harm in trying for Columbia or NYU.

Thanks all..

Couple clarifications:

I'm from Boston & graduated from BC undergrad.

What about UVA? Penn?

I EDed to Georgetown the first time around and I was WLed at BC.

Feel like you would be an ideal BC transfer considering your strong ties to the area and the common strain of Catholic schools central to your narrative (BC UG + 'Nova 1L performance).

At first glance I thought this thread said "How high am I?"
