Transferring from USD?

Post by andrewh » Fri Apr 22, 2011 12:03 pm

First semster grades - 3.9, rank not released until after second semester.
Offered a position on the mock trial team for next year.
Interning with the deputy district attorney for LA county in charge of gang violence over the summer.

Should I try for a transfer? Of course I have the feeling that my grades will not stay so high; I think everyone has that feeling. But should I try to go somewhere else? UCLA, USC, etc. are close by, any chance at Hasting or Boalt? Or even higher? What do you guys think?

If you end up in the top 10% you're competitive for Boalt and other lower-t14s (Boalt should be your target). Top 5% and you'll have a good shot at T6. You'll need top 1 or 2% for HYS. Without rank you just don't know--but people who do well first semester tend to continue.

edit: don't transfer for less than T14 + UCLA (and I'm not sure that lower than T10 is really worth it). Hastings should not be under consideration.

i think you will get into UCLA or USC if you are in the top 10%. Cali residency will help for ucla. I think for the rest of the t14 you need top 5%.
Last year top 5-10% people at some borderline t1 schools were having problems getting into t14s.

I would say top 5% is a lock at Boalt, between 5-10% it is still very likely.
