Transfer to LOWER ranked school.
So if someone was at CCN, and they had slightly below median grades, would they be able to transfer to other top 10 schools? Which ones? And would be they be able to transfer to top 20 schools and get money at all?

why would you do this? if your below median all you have going for you is the school prestige at that point.. imagine being asked that at OCI..? unless its for some geographic preference doesnt make sense to me

Re: Transfer to LOWER ranked school.
I don't know about T6 -> T10 transfers (obviously you won't be getting HYS) but I'm pretty sure you won't be getting $ pretty much anywhere. Scholarships are primarily used to lure in students whose numbers help the school climb the rankings, and that motivation no longer exists for transfers. Schools may be willing to shell out money to a transfer if it looks like they will go on to do some impressive things, but that probably wouldn't apply to a below median student.
Remember that median at a T6 may not be the best place to be, but if you have to be below median somewhere CCN is better than most.

Let us assume that said person was either trying to go to a similar school, get money at a lower ranked school, or just leave for another reason.

I'm not sure about the money part, but this seems like an overall rough scenario. Think of yourself at OCI at the new school: you lost the higher prestige of CCN, but you still have the bad grades (because at that point, those are all the grades they have to consider). CCN probably has some great firms showing up to their OCIs, which may not be as good at a lower ranked school, even a T20. Transferring up makes sense in a lot of cases, but down? If it's just about the grades, I would say stay.

So you think they might have a chance at top 10 with medianish grades and no money? What kind of grades would it take to go from ccn to hys?

Scant data on this semi-lateral transfer, but probably at least top 20-25% to go to HYS. And great recommendations.730 wrote:St.Remy wrote:I don't know about T6 -> T10 transfers (obviously you won't be getting HYS) but I'm pretty sure you won't be getting $ pretty much anywhere. I would imagine that they should give some leeway to students who are around median at CCN and are transferring down, but I have a feeling they won't. If someone had compelling reasons to be in another state would that be enough?

There's scant data on this kind of case (unless I just can't find it). It's worth a shot, if you're set on it.

I would doubt you will get money, but I imagine you'd have a good shot at a transfer to a lower tier (or mini-tier as the case may be) school. Kind of curious if you just hate the school you're at now or the city you're in or if its something else, but I understand if you don't want to go into that.
