Transfer prospects
I am currently a 1L at one of the schools ranked 28th in the USNWR. How difficult would it be to transfer to another school in the 20s, say BU? Or even in the top 14? I know it is still early to be considering this ( I have not received a grade yet), however I'm considering this option and was curious about my chances.

Re: Transfer prospects
A transfer to another school in the 20's would only seem to make sense if you have a change in your geographical preference. Its not like you are upgrading a tier by going from a school ranked 28th to a school ranked 22nd. If you do well enough to get into a T-14 school, that is a different story. But I'd imagine a lateral transfer within your same tier typically makes sense only when you change what region you want to end up in for one reason or another.

Yeah, a change in geographic location is what I had in mind.

Re: Transfer prospects
For a lateral transfer, top 30%. For t14, top 10%.

Is this the consensus? Is there anyone out there that has made a similar move?

You can get some data points at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/transferapps/chanel1285 wrote:anyone?
To top t14 for your school you will probably need top 15% minimum (depending on the t14 school). You are not going to find many data points for a lateral transfer because not many people do that. Depending on the school for lateral transfer it could probably be anywhere from top 25% - top 40%
