Do any schools allow you to transfer after 1st semester 2L?
I'm starting 2L year and I was considering applying to transfer this summer (the summer after 1L year) when everyone else does but did not have any desire to transfer in the end. However, I'm now reconsidering this decision and would like to know if any schools accept people who transfer after the first semester of their 2L year? I know a lot don't but not sure if they all don't.
Thanks!

Pretty sure aba requires 2 full yrs in residence at transferee school. If you're a PT student, it may work provided you are there at transferee school for 2 full yrs after 1st sem 2L yr. Best look it up to confirm; this info is all available online.ayoung22 wrote:I'm starting 2L year and I was considering applying to transfer this summer (the summer after 1L year) when everyone else does but did not have any desire to transfer in the end. GULC and GW have a spring 2L transfer cycles. I believe that Boalt does too. There are others as well, but you have to search them out. The down side is that they only accept the maximum 28/29 credits from the first year. I would just contact the school's that you're interested in and ask or visit their websites.

Some schools allow visiting students for the 3rd year. You could check on that as an option too.

I've heard of people who transfer after their full second year...BUT, they have to give up the entire second year of coursework. ABA only allows 28 credits (or however many 1/3 of graduation requirement credits there are) to transfer. My understanding is you can, but if you are paying for law school (i.e. not on a full ride) it will cost you a pretty penny.

Re: Do any schools allow you to transfer after 1st semester 2L?
I can confirm that Harvard will let you transfer after 3 semesters, but my question to them was in the context of missing the spring/fall semester and then starting as a "2L" in the fall. The answer is yes, as long as you have a legit. reason.
I can confirm that the University of Chicago will allow you to transfer up to 40 credits regardless of when they were earned.
I can confirm that Northwestern only allows 28 credits, but you can still transfer after that and lose the additional credits. I can confirm that Columbia will not allow this (32 credits). And I can confirm that NYU, Penn might allow it, depending upon circumstances (32 credits). And Georgetown will not (my scenario).
