Official University of Michigan Transfer Class 2012
Reminder: fb group created by jlockhart at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=137805322906211
I spoke with 2 3L transfers who said they regretted not living close to the law school. Housing search in the area was pretty rough. Expensive and very little left to tour. I think I found a place, but it took a few days and required looking at 20 or so that were poor fits. I found http://www.padmapper.com/, a Craig's list/google maps hybrid very helpful.
Anyone have any tips for EIW bidding?

Consistent with T4Transfer's report, I also had a difficult time securing a reasonable place to live in Ann Arbor (the apartments were overpriced and, to be expected in late-July, there was absolutely no inventory). I eventually found a place to live on Craig's List, however, the process required three days of painstaking searching. Good luck and go blue!

I agree, took me multiple trips up there to find a decent place that wasn't too crazy expensive and relatively close to the school (about 3/4 mile away). I have an e-mail a friend sent me that is pretty comprehensive on where to look/not look, if anyone wants that pm me your e-mail address I will forward it to you. That said, if anyone does want to live farther from the school, I found a lumber yard on craig's list that sells parking spots for 50 bucks a month, about 5-7 minute walk to the law school ... considering the nightmare parking is up there, it isn't too bad (plus the gentlemen did a month to month thing, no long term lease). PM me if you guys are interested and I'll send you the link.
Looking forward to meeting you all soon, congrats again!

Can you guys supply some stats? I am hoping to do well enough to transfer, and Michigan is definitely somewhere I'd like to go. Thanks.

Not a UMich admit (unfortunately), but don't overlook the room share category on craigslist. In a college town, it will be packed with students looking for roommates.T4Transfer wrote:Reminder: fb group created by jlockhart at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=137805322906211

Anyone know the gym situation? I remember someone mentioning that law students use the biz school gym.

The IM building and CCRB are free gyms on campus. They are ok for most workout needs, but can get crowded during peak hours. Starting this year, law students can purchase memberships to the bschool gym for $150 a semester.T4Transfer wrote:Anyone know the gym situation? Also, as a 2L, I'd like to say welcome to our class

Any other transfers focusing on the Chicago market? Hoping there will be some fellow transfers at these receptions...

A couple of the large Chicago firms are hosting some at local bars. I am sure that if you didn't at least bid on them then you wouldn't receive the invite so no worries.

So does anybody know where this "transfer orientation page" is that Student Affairs speaks of?

If you go into the admitted students website, on the left under "Mark Your Calendar" is a link for orientation. Click that and on the left there's a link for transfer stuff. At least, I figure that's the one you want. 1L though, not a transfer, so I don't know if y'all have something else too.jlockhart6 wrote:So does anybody know where this "transfer orientation page" is that Student Affairs speaks of?

Anyone going to Dominick's pre-OCI transfer gathering? I reserved a spot, and I hope to attend. I thought it would be great if we all get shit faced on shots and then attend OCI orientation. Then I realized that wouldn't be so great, but I giggle about the thought of a drunken transfer rampage. I guess it would also help if I actually drank, which I don't. Still, anyone going?
