Official Harvard Law School Transfer Class of 2012
Now that a number of us have officially been accepted and paid our deposits, I figured it might be the right time to start up a thread and talk about HLS and social topics that don't relate to admissions.
So... has everyone found housing? Thoughts on course selection? Has anyone heard about any professors to avoid/aim for? Any ideas what journal you're going to try to work for (assuming that you didn't make the write-on)? Any clinics or student practice organizations with which you're aiming to get involved?

Re: Official Harvard Law School Transfer Class of 2012
Regarding housing: I'm from the Boston area originally, so I can help out here. I highly recommend looking in the Porter Square area. It's around a 10 mnute walk to HLS, and there are a ton of great amenities (including a massive 24-hour supermarket). Of course, the closer you get to the square itself, the higher the prices are. Alternatively, if you're ok living a few train stops away (still no more than 20-30 minutes from HLS), I'd advise looking at Davis Square in Somerville. Davis has tons of great residential housing options and it's filled with lots of young professionals and recent graduates.
Regarding journals, I've confirmed that there is no real admission process for any of the secondary journals. You just approach them and tell them you'd like to help out/work for them. I've heard from a student who transferred last year that the typical system seems to be to treat you as a 1L for an assignment or two (1Ls can work on journals at HLS), then to give you work like a standard 2L on the journal.

Congrats all. Looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks.
By the way- have any 7/20 admits received the acceptance packet yet? I assume it includes login/pw for HLS email?

So, when are people getting to the Boston/Cambridge area? I'd love to do some sort of pre-orientation get-together for us TLS -HLS transfers...

Moving in 8/1 near Harvard Square. I think it would be great to grab drinks/dinner with fellow transfers.D.Wilde wrote:So, when are people getting to the Boston/Cambridge area? I'd love to do some sort of pre-orientation get-together for us TLS -HLS transfers...

I already signed a lease on a place. I went up and spent Thursday and Friday looking around , and found a place. It's not close to campus, it'll be a long walk, and it's tiny, but it's cheap.

Is anyone looking for a roommate? I'm still trying to sort out my housing situation.

So... How do people feel about either Friday, August 6 or Saturday, August 7 for our first dinner/drinks meet-up?

I may either 1) not be there yet or 2) be moving on that day.D.Wilde wrote:So... How do people feel about either Friday, August 6 or Saturday, August 7 for our first dinner/drinks meet-up?

Re: Official Harvard Law School Transfer Class of 2012
Well, I'm thinking that we'll definitely try to do more than one of these. My initial thought would be to do one nice and early in August for those moving up here on August 1, and then another a little bit later for those moving up later in August.
Or, we could just push it back until around Wednesday, August 11 (after EIP bids are due)...
Thoughts?

Oh, and does anyone know how we're supposed to start doing the EIP bidding or picking courses? I asked admissions and they were entirely unhelpful...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
