Just submitted my deposit... I was thinking about the dorms, they seem like a pretty popular and probably the easiest option.

Do you know what the deal is for OCI? Do we still have the opportunity to bid on interviews? Do they hold spots open for us?

I know they hold spots, but it seems like we might be at a disadvantage if its done separately than the rest of the school. anyone know more?

Are you doing Mercer or D'Ag?

I wonder if we can move the license date up and just pay a little extra. Right now, the license starts Aug 28th, which is highly inconvenient since orientation is on the 19th and EIW is the week thereafter.

I think you can apply to move in early, which is what I more than likely will end up doing. I've heard Mercer > D'Ag and that they save a number of interviews and make sure that we have just as many interviews as non-transfers. I was also preselected for a number of interviews, so I am still going to see if I can interview directly at those firms as well.

Supposedly Mercer is better than D'Ag in terms of room size, but keep in mind that D'Ag is literally across the street from the law school buildings. I'm living off campus (and starting this fall, 0L disclaimer), so I have no strong opinions either way, but I think quite a few people based their decision on this fact.

Where are you living off-campus?

Can anybody recommend Brooklyn neighborhoods I could look at?

I'm in Bay Ridge. It's about a 40-minute commute, but I've been doing it for the past year (and had a similar commute the year before that, as well). There's a brief discussion here: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 5#p2623841

and maybe some more in the NYU class of 2013 forum?

Not knowing your criteria (i.e., desired commute length, atmosphere, cost), I'd recommend you look at Park Slope. I'm not cool with $1000+/month for rent, but if you are, there's no better area, IMO.

I have a 2 bedroom 1 bath apt. up near Columbia that I am trying to sublet for the upcoming year. I am transferring and need to get rid of this place right away. It's 2 blocks from Columbia and 1 block from the 1 train at 125th street. 30 min on #1 train to NYU.

The rent near NYU is ridiculous, ive seen studios for $1700 bucks.
The place i am offering is 1850 a month.
Avail aug. 1st.

Does anyone know if there is still student housing available, and is anyone thinking about taking this route?

I think I'll apply, I hope there are some still available. Anyone looking for roommates or does housing do any matching?

I just called them. They still have housing, and it should not be a problem. I also asked about who we would be matched up with, as transfers. They said to note if we had a preference to room with transfer students in the application and they would try to accomodate, but that because it is so late in the process they can't gaurantee anything.

Any idea how early we can arrive? Still waiting to get my University ID so I can submit the housing app.

I mailed my deposit Saturday. I called on Monday to get an estimate of the turnaround time and they said to check back with them in two days. I'll call them tomorrow if I don't hear anything today.

How about you?

Can't all the deposit/confirmation stuff just be done online?

Oh sure, if you have a non-visa credit card. It was easier for me to mail it than it was to buy a pre-paid mastercard or borrow a friends.

Looking forward to joining you all in the fall.

If anyone looking for off-campus housing near the Law School has had luck, I would greatly appreciate your sharing any resources you found especially helpful.

Thanks!

Does anyone know what the deal is with journals? My understanding is that there is a write on once school starts but that it is very competitive - does this go for secondary journals as well?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
