Boston College v. Wash U Stl.

Post by LawGeek5 » Wed Jul 21, 2010 10:52 am

There is nothing special about this. It is just a straight up question. I would be paying sticker at either. I am trying to find a job and make money upon graduation so that I can pay down my loans. Consider job prospects and cost of living in the areas where one may get a job after graduating from both schools.

You can compare and contrast the two all day.

I would suggest Boston College simply because it has a better home market (as Boston>St. Louis for legal employment).

So...no preferences whatsoever?

I'd lean this way as well. St. Louis COL may be a little lower, but neither's a fantastic option at sticker, TBH.

But doesn't WUSTL have more "ownership" of it's home market for students who want to stay in town? I'd imagine it's competing with fewer students in the city itself (only SLU, rather than all of the schools in Boston), and that fewer T14 students are trying to come into the city.

Just my thought from a practical perspective. I'd pick WUSTL.

STL firms are known to be reluctant to hire WUSTL out-of-towners because of the Windy City Flight Risk. Not saying that it doesn't happen, but just something to be aware of.

+1

Also, I suspect, though I don't know, that BC has a more robust alumni community. This could be helpful ITE and as the economy pulls out of ITE, if it ever does.

True about competing w/ less students in STL, but I still think you could make a better run at a good job in Boston and the surrounding cities, areas. I think you could probably look for a job up and down the entire east coast coming out of BC (at least the northern half of the east coast), rather than just STL, Missouri, Chicago, and the other smaller cities WUSTL would naturally supply.
