Dumb application omission.

Post by CRizzy141 » Tue Jul 20, 2010 5:38 pm

I just realized a brutal omission from my transfer applications.

I bartended through my first term. Nothing crazy - ~30 hours a week, less towards finals - but I can't imagine that wouldn't have been good to point out given that I booked two classes and was top 2% that term.

Edit - Of course, given that a DUI was a primary negative going forward, maybe the omission was a prudent one :).

Isn't it an ABA rule that 1Ls can't work more than 15 hours per week?

I generally imagine a "brutal omission" would be something like forgetting to mention you made LR, or, in my case, forgetting to say I was the top scholar designation at GW for my Georgetown EA application. Bartending does not come to mind.

This thread just reminded me that I left my ultimate frisbee team's 3rd place finish at regionals off my apps...brutal.

Fortunately this year I remembered to include in my resume my "4th Grade Spelling Bee victory, where I beat nearly 48 students, and won by spelling 'agriculturally' correct!" Also, I held my breath for the longest in 9th grade pool, and held in the most alcohol in college...

These omissions would have been BRUTAL!

(But really, Bartending--though important and worthwhile--is only a couple of notches above the above on a law school resume.)

You understate the importance of the world's second oldest, and second most noble, profession.

TBF, isn't that about the same as including that you made moot court? ;)

Yes! Now if you can phrase it as such on your resume, you are set. So I apologize; I did understate the importance of your profession...but maybe you can call yourself a "Barkeep who masterfully tends to a bar serving prominent legal clientèle, in the heart of the city."

I didn't mention LR or any subsequent scholarship I got in my application. Once school didn't even want me to send an update email with that info, only snail mail if I really wanted to. Luckily, I still got in without mentioning those things.

And OP, I think it is impressive to work while in school. But you had an awesome rank so it probably doesn't matter anyway.

And OP, I think it is impressive against the ABA rules to work more than 20 hours per week while in school full time. But you had an awesome rank so it probably doesn't matter anyway unless the character and fitness people catch you and devour your soul, loltaxfilings.
