Another Transfer or Stay Poll

Post by buslaw4302 » Sat Jul 17, 2010 2:54 pm

I have been really conflicted over transferring, I am still waiting on YHS and Columbia but I must make the decision whether or not to accept NYU by Friday, and based on current acceptance trends, HYS may be out of reach.

I am currently 5-10% at a T20, on LR, have a decent (1/3) scholarship, and currently have >15 interviews not including OCI or Early Interview Week mostly in NY but a few interviews are with firms in D.C. and Chicago.

I would like to clerk and/or maybe enter academia down the road but am more concerned with making sure to get a 2L summer biglaw position that would ultimately lead to an offer.

You rolled the dice by attending a non-T14 law school, but the dice fell in your favor (b/c you did well). I would be hesitant to give up rank/LR/$ for non-HYS.

Let's not conflate the probability of one event with that of another.

Tough choice. Where do you want to live & work? Can WashUStL get you there? Since you have interviews in NYC, DC & Chicago, it seems that WUSTL is working out well for you. For an academic career, Yale, Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, Chicago or NYU might be better choices.

I would prefer to practice in NY but would also consider practicing in Chicago or D.C. It seems as if WUSTL could get me to any of these markets but I am concerned with striking out and/or getting no-offered.

You want to be in New York. You go to a school that won't carry you well in New York, particularly right now. You got in to NYU. You would be insane to turn them down--though I would reneg in a heartbeat for Columbia/HYS, obviously.
