How to try to get an answer...

Post by stinger35 » Sun Jul 11, 2010 2:48 pm

I've got the Berkeley deadline on Thursday and am planning on contacting Michigan and northwestern this week to see if I can get an answer. Any recommendations on how to do this (email or phone) or if it will even change anything?

Thanks

You will be finding out this week from NW but w/ that deadline you have a great excuse to give them a ring. I would just call Monday and say you are on a deadline and would like to know if its possible to find out if you're accepted at NW so you can decide. You don't even have to tell them your name unless they say it's cool. If they say no, say thanks and hang up. Let us know what they say and good luck.

Of course, at least Michigan has Caller-ID, so if you call from your cell phone...

I don't have any advice, but I am puzzled about why you would care about Michigan and Northwestern when you already got into Berkeley...

I live in Chicago and want to work in Chicago. Not only is moving across the entire country basically on a dime not exactly enticing but Michigan and obviously Northwestern are feeder schools for Chicago.

How dare you follow your life goals over the U.S. News and World Report rankings.

If you have ties to the area, Chicago from Boalt is workable and *could* help you stand out from the rest of the Chi/NW crowd. (Anecdotally, I have a friend at a V10 there this summer). Quite a few firms coming for OCI from there.

Of course, that doesn't resolve the moving issue.

No, but I definitely appreciate the advice. It looks more and more like I am going to be at Berkeley so I should start looking at the bright side of it all. (Not that it is too hard to look at the bright side of a t7 school in California)
