If you look at the 2010 Results database, there is an entry:
Current school: Georgia State
Stats: 3.6 top 30%
Applied to: Yale, Harvard, Chicago
Accepted at: Yale, Harvard, Chicago
Nevermind the fact that Harvard and Yale haven't started issuing decisions yet.
This is exactly why people offer unreasonably optimistic predictions to others, and why so many people get their hopes dashed on this board every year.
Honestly, what kind of asshole does stuff like this?

Re: Why the transferapps database sucks
Well, those sorts of things can be ignored and I highly doubt people take note of obvious fallacies and then make predictions on the prospects of others' admission chances.
However, you're right in another way. Transferapps isn't reliable because, obviously, the people most likely to post there are those who get accepted. Those who are dinged are less likely to self-report their failure. That's far more altruistic than the average person can be expected to behave. So, the picture painted for someone is "oh look, that guy got in with similar numbers" - but the reality is probably "that guy got in with similar numbers, and 10 other people didnt"
