Yeah I am lucky enough to live close to Michigan so I have been able to drive up several times. The law building is awesome by the way if you are into old school gothic style architecture. That said I'm sure Berk is amazing too being in San Fran, tough choice man, but a great one to have!stinger35 wrote:Exactly. Congrats to everyone in this thread who made it in!
I am a Michigan rising 2L and I just wanted to reiterate my offer to answer any questions anybody has about Michigan (housing, student body, academics, profs, etc.). I probably don't have all the answers but I'll give it my best shot! Feel free to PM me or I'll be trolling around this thread once and a while.
Congratuations again!

stinger35 wrote:Thanks man, definitely appreciate it. Strongly leaning towards Michigan right now. Can't believe how nice they were on the phone (and throughout the whole process). Im guessing I'll be seein you in the fall. I need to start figuring out housing, damnit.jlockhart6 wrote:Dude nice! A much deserved congrats! At least you can relax a little at this point knowing you are in at one of your top two choices (and Mich's deadline is not until July 30). Well done sir.stinger35 wrote:Just got the call - In. Can't really believe it! I had already started to look at housing for Berkeley and everything. This certainly complicates it all. (And wtf is up with the ding from GULC at this point? hahahaha)
Also: stats: Chicago T2, top 5% (3.0 UG, 160 LSAT), some softs
Never got a status checker. Go figure.
Wow congrats! And P.S. you give me hope! I had similar UG numbers.

I was browsing rent.com today, it didn't yield anything too spectacular. Any regional sites that are better for finding cheap student housing, Mich students?T4Transfer wrote:Anyone look at housing options yet?

This site is thanks to Verdandi, --LinkRemoved--.
Just fyi, I have been told by a couple of law students that the places directly around campus are usually pretty crummy and expensive - also that the busing system is pretty tremendous and it is easier to find nicer places off campus and take a bus to campus. Just throwing it out there for what it is worth.

BTW, Mich acceptees who are going to be joining the transfer class, the Admissions Office recommended I create a facebook group for the class so we can all communicate and such when I dropped off my deposit check. She said past classes have done this and really liked it. So if you are going to join the class and want to join the facebook group, it is called "Michigan Law Transfer Class of 2012" Hope some of you join! Congrats again!

Re: In @ Michigan!! Tier 3 to top 10
michigan graduate AND rising 2L here -- happy to help with housing suggestions.
1. graduate students tend to live to the west and north of campus (downtown, kerrytown or old west side neighborhoods), or the far south east of campus (burns park). living within the .5mile radius of the school to the south and east = all undergrads, bad housing, higher rents.
2. lots of people love woodbury commons. i don't know much about it other than that.
3. all UM students can ride the AATA buses for free, so being further away isnt a HUGE deal, but the buses do stop running semi-early and are not all that frequent. just things to keep in mind. and, the winters are cold, so being a 20+ minute walk from campus with no bus option can be tough, but not un-doable.
4. some landlords only rent to graduate students; you can find ads for these apts on craigs list usually.
5. if you have individual questions about management companies/properties/locations, i'm happy to help!

Any transfers doing lawyer's club? I didn't really think about but the admissions letter does say it would be "the easiest and most appealing" and it is a ton cheaper than what I am looking at if you include food. Still dont think I'd do it but just checking

For anyone who is wondering...there's a waiting list for females to get into the Lawyer's Club, but they made it seem like they still had room for males, though I did not specifically ask.

I just officially withdrew--it breaks my heart! I fell in love with the school and with Ann Arbor, but Michigan isn't the right financial decision for me.
Congratulations to those of you who are in, and good luck to those of you still waiting to hear. It's a fantastic place.

Based on what I remember from property, I do not think educational/professional status is a prohibited criteria.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
