class rank is taking forever to be posted!

Post by mmribail » Wed Jun 16, 2010 2:21 pm

How difficult is it to do rankings when you got every ones grades? Can't a computer do it? All you need to do is count backwards from 4.0 and you got your rankings. My last exam was on May 14, 2010. Its been over a month and they told me today the rankings wont be out until next week. The transfer applications are due on the first of July for some of the schools I want to transfer to. Is anyone else having this same issue?

Same deal over here, my class rank will not be calculated to mid july. So, I have contacted my potential transfer schools to inform them of the delay and am making sure to have everything else submitted early.

While it is frustrating, I am sure schools that take a lot of transfers are used to dealing with some delays.

Same issues here...its all a huge conspiracy by the schools to thwart the transfer efforts of their students!

same issue here. can't you look at last semester's cut-offs and make an educated guess? or does your school not report cut-offs after fall semester?

like at least some others in this forum, i'm hoping the T10% cut-off takes a nose dive :D (wishful thinking, ik)

btw our exams ended over a month ago and one professor has yet to submit his grades. this apparently overworked professor is preventing our entire class from timely receiving ranks

I'm hoping they take a dive as well. This is historically what happens but I don't feel good assuring myself on what happened in previous years :(

I wish i had such data on my school to extrapolate from! Do you think it's normal for the cut-offs (particularly T10%) to decrease after spring semester? My intuition is that any movement is almost entirely random; but, here's to hoping there's some statistical theory (or other issue) i'm ignoring that flies in the face of my intuition...

FWIW, the top 10% GPA decreased by .02. we have a tight curve at my school so that was actually a pretty significant amount (at least for people on the cusp)

4.0-3.56 - 5%
3.39- 3.26- 10%
3.25- 3.04 - 15%
3.00-2.94 - 20%
2.93-2.84 - 25%
2.82-2.76 - 30%
2.75-2.68 - 35%
2.65-2.58 - 40%
2.57-2.54 - 45%
2.53-2.46 - 50%
2.45- Lower -50%

This was 2008s version of gpa and the rank a student received. This year I was informed only 40 people received over a 3.0 (we have a C curve at my law school). So it looks like we took a 1% dive too.

We have a B curve and top 10% was a 3.643. They only break it down by 5% for us so the top 5% was a 3.750 and 15% was 3.482. I don't know how much that helps you though, especially because this year for us was very high for a 10% GPA. Historically it was around a 3.57 for top 10%.

Good luck to the rest of you...I wish schools didn't take so long to get their numbers out.

Ughh, its gonna be close for me. 3.747, top 5% get academic leadership scholarships...i guess at this point I just have to wait it out.
