Questions about LOR and LSAC

Post by iheartlaw » Thu Jun 03, 2010 7:08 pm

Hi guys,

I could really use your help! My Professor said he can write me a LOR on June 14th when he returns from a trip. Some of the schools I am applying to have June 15th deadlines. He asked me if on the afternoon of June 14th I would prefer to either a) come by and get the letter (which i'm actually not sure I am allowed to do, am i?) or if he could fax or email it to me or LSAC? Are you guys aware of what my possibilities are? Should I physically pick it up for him and first day priority mail it to LSAC? Or does LSAC allow students to email or fax? Or does LSAC allow professors to email or fax? I am open to suggestions, I just need to let him know as soon as possible. Any input is greatly appreciated. I hope everyone kicked ass on their semester 2 finals.

Kind regards.

I don't know, I would almost just go ask another prof. at this time.

You could fax it, which would be fastest, but LSAC takes more than a day to get it sent to your schools. I know that some schools allow you to have the professor individually address the recommendation to them. You should call each school and ask if he could fax it to them, or at least overnight it.

What if I were to notify the schools that I have an incoming letter of recommendation, I suspect that they would postpone judgment until they receive it, if it arrived with in a reasonable time?

Also, are you sure I can have my Professor Fax the LOR straight to LSAC? I was not aware that they did this.

When I was in undergrad I had my professors fax my LORs and they were received and processed almost immediately. The fax number is difficult to find; I think that you might have to call them for it. Good luck.

quick forum search says 215-504-1444. I did it last year, can't remember how long it took to get posted though. I think asking the school if you can send it directly to them is best. I'm probably going to be in the same boat (I still don't even have grades to ask for a letter). Damn you, Fordham and your early deadline.
