Kind of a rough cycle, competition was stiff. Was hoping for at least one more T14 acceptance, but at this point I am still unbelievably grateful for GULC, and so stoked to be attending. I think the major reason for getting rejected at almost all of the T14's was that I came from a PT program. I know there are other people like Stinger who came from PT and had tremendous success, but I feel that being PT really hurt my chances at a lot of places. FWIW I had 21 completed units by the end of spring semester and then 26 by the end of summer. Hope this helps other PT students who want to transfer.

It has been quite the summer, and I'm so glad this is all over. CONGRATS to everybody on completing the transfer cycle/making their moves for this fall. I still can't believe I worked full-time, transferred, and did OCI within the period of a few weeks.

As a warning to 0Ls/rising 1Ls: BEWARE! Before deciding to take a dip into the pool of transfer-world-despair, peruse these threads and get a sense of the anxiety, anguish, and uncertainty that permeated the lives of (just about) all who posted here. Know that the best way to get information will not always be through a TLS thread--in fact, while a greater percentage of TLS threads are informative and helpful, threads often derail and become blind leading the blind, that a telephone call to an admissions office can oftentimes be your best bet, and don't forget to make good use of a fax machine. Also know that the difference between top-10% and top-5% may have no logical bearing on your chances at a particular school, your "softs" will likely not count for much (they probably didn't in your initial applications, too), and your "special" ties to a region will not be a dispositive factor in your application. Assume that every year, more students try to transfer, transfer classes will continue to get larger and more competitive, and that there may not always be a warm welcome at your transferee school. Keep in mind that OCI deadlines will swiftly approach, you will have to fill-out 309298382 forms after you're accepted, and you may even have to get a doctor's note. Moreover, you will (most likely) have to move, and moving takes time and planning that doesn't happen overnight (unless you're into couch-surfing). Finally, transferring will wear on you, and you will often question your decision to transfer for that reason.

Don't lost sight, however, of the reasons for which you intend to transfer. Repeat them over in your head daily, and be prepared to explain those reasons to employers--as will often be the first question employers ask in an interview. Maybe its for prestige, maybe its for location, maybe its for a girl/guy, or maybe its because you've realized that your current situation is not the best platform for you to begin a professional career. Plans, people, and environments change--that is a given. You might have loved your 1L experience, or you might have hated it. In the end, however, you did well enough to change your venue, and if you have a good reason to do so, then do it. You are the master of you're own destiny, but don't go forth blazing a path uninformed!

I have some advice to impart after this process. Namely, don't try to transfer. It is extremely stressful, and your 1L job and OCI are probably going to be stressful enough. I am more or less in my dream school, but this year is going to be rough--and even rougher if I do not land an offer. Also, the process is dispiriting.

If you decide to try to transfer anyway, read "Guerrilla Tactics" first, and, in conjunction with your career services department, develop your resume and spiel for OCI interviews. Then, build your transfer app around this spiel. The admissions board will want you to get a job, and the more serious you seem about this, the better. Also, if possible, try to limit the # of schools you apply to, so that you have a better opportunity to do the write-on.
