Re: Predict A'nold's First Acceptance
Yes. I've spoken to numerous lawyers in the past few weeks about my transfer decision. They all say the reputation of your school is really, really important and that I should transfer. This was NOT the response I was expecting after telling them that I made law review at Southwestern. You have to understand that it is possible that you have been looking at this the wrong way. It is very comforting to be a big fish in a small pond, but that feeling only lasts until graduation. After graduation you will be a small fish in a gigantic ocean. You need to put yourself in the best position possible.A'nold wrote:Dante- you really think It'd be a good idea even with the fact that I have strong ties to the region and my t3 isn't too far away, plus my 1L job is in that market?

Re: Predict A'nold's First Acceptance
I'm disappointed too guys.
Dante- the problem is that I could have easily gotten into this school without transferring and have been accepted in the past. It sucks to throw away a top 10% (I know I will be back into the top 10% next semester) standing and starting over like a 0L when I've already established my grades at another school when I could have just as easily gone there, be it at a premium price. Now I'm hardly concerned about price and just want to GTFO my current school.

You saved money by going to your T3, right?
You should have every confidence that you will do just as well at your new school. After all, you will be competing mostly with burnt out 2Ls, and you have something to prove.
I think you made a mistake going to a T3 over better options. You still have time to rectify that mistake.

Yeah, those are valid points. Think of 1L as a scholly, right?Danteshek wrote:You saved money by going to your T3, right?

I had to go. It is a long and complicated story but even the most ardent "go to the best school possible" peeps on here agreed with my decision after pm discussion.

Re: Predict A'nold's First Acceptance
Wait... are both these schools in the same region he wants to work in?
You'd be insane to xfer away from top 10% and law review at a regional T3 to just move to a regional T2. I don't see how that's even remotely worth it. Am I missing something?

Wow I'm really suprised you have not gotten snatched up yet. But if your going to transfer make sure its to a school where you would not mind working afterwards. ITE connections are going to play such a big factor and you have already missed out on 1L year at the new place. Good luck man. You hsould have just appled to and come to Denver so i could find u a job.

1. He is not on law review.
2. He is not in the top 10%.
3. His school is in bumfuck middle of nowhere (not where he wants to practice)
Even if 1-3 didn't apply, he would still be better off at a better school in the region he wants to practice.
Of course, you are entitled to your opinion. It's just wrong.

Re: Predict A'nold's First Acceptance
I indicated quite early on in my last post that I was unsure of where the two schools were located regionally. By asking that question first, I think I made it pretty clear the rest of my post hinged on that. I appreciate your thoughtful clarification, but you could have answered my post with one word! However, then you wouldn't have gotten to use the zinger last line of your postDanteshek wrote:apper123 wrote:Wait... are both these schools in the same region he wants to work in?

I hope Dresden Doll backs up her words with action when she is on the hiring committee of some fancy law firm.

I'd love to add some snarky wittery, but I either couldn't come up with any or it would just be about my lame self so I'll just shut up.

I'd sooner hire a top 10 percent at Southwestern than just another student at Loyola. Hth.Danteshek wrote:dresden doll wrote:THIS.apper123 wrote:Wait... are both these schools in the same region he wants to work in?

Yep. Pretty much only OMM in Los Angeles thinks this way (and you really need to be magna (5%) or summa (1%)). Every other major firm basically blacklists Southwestern.dresden doll wrote:I'd sooner hire a top 10 percent at Southwestern than just another student at Loyola. My internet skills are failing me. "Hth?" "OMM?"
Is there a TLS glossary anywhere? I'd look them up on Urban Dictionary, but I have a feeling at least one of these won't show up there.

Rollercoaster.
PS- I applied to a certain regional "safety" t2 that is becoming more attractive by the minute, due to family reasons.

Ah-hah. Perfect. BTW - I'm sure all Tiger Army fans have a hard time reading "FTW" as "for the win." I know I do. I think "for the win" is kind of stupid, but I know nobody cares what I think.jayn3 wrote:also http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... t=ttt+lociselfloathingtransfer wrote:Awesome. Go A'nold, Go! I know of someone who transferred to L&C this cycle, but I'm not sure what their stats were. I just know they were originally from the NW.

If you want the long story, I had been unemployed for a year because I had an offer to work in Russia that was rescinded. The managing partner had a stroke and died. I had left my job, sold my car, and rented out my apartment. I was 5 days from stepping on the flight.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
