Re: Georgetown EA 2011 Thread
Your second option is entirely plausible (and is the correct reason for the deposit deadline in this instance).
For the record, many people will have grades back on June 5th, giving them a much better picture of whether it's smart to stay at their current school or transfer to somewhere in the T10. I know our school sends grades back by June 5th.
Georgetown uses this early deposit date because they know people will pay the deposit to keep their options open. People will do that because it's the rational thing to do. Later, things become more clear and people are less likely to pay the deposit. So, by requiring a deposit very early, Georgetown secures a significant amount of deposit money, even from those students who will end up attending Michigan but wanted to hold their spot just in case spring grades fell or Michigan denied them.
The other problem with your hypothesis is that you're assuming that Georgetown does this ALL ADMITS ----> ALL DEFERRALS ----> DEPOSIT DEADLINE ----> People we would let in if someone doesn't deposit.
This just doesn't seem like the way it happens. Do you really think the person above me that is top 4% in her T2 who just got a status change is an "ALL DEFERRAL" instead of a 50/50? You believe there's a category of student that exists between auto-admit and the kind of stats you're seeing get this second status change? That seems like a wild position. That must be a REALLY narrow class of people who survive to that "People we would let in if someone doesn't deposit" grouping. That is, since, you know, people who are deferred prior to the deadline aren't deferred to the post-deadline period; they're deferred to the regular transfer admissions period.
The more likely hypothesis is that they handle these things in waves, possibly (probably) sending out more admits on the front end. There are a ton of REALLY specific conclusions being drawn in this thread using really general, incomplete data points from wildly unreliable sources (IE internet posters). The other flaw is assuming that this thread is a representative sample.

Yes, let's not forget the 3-5 people that Chicago takes ED (most of whom probably didn't apply to GULC anyway).Coolgrnmen wrote:You guys left out the people that also applied EA UChi...theirs is binding and certainly some that applied EA GULC will have applied ED UChi...

Re: Georgetown EA 2011 Thread
Hey can those who were admitted post stats of %, school rank, and what their gulc status change was? Same to those who just went complete for the second time on 4/25. From reading threads last year gulc is doing it differntly. They used decision rendered and under review for their status updates. If we can compare these stats, we will prob have a better idea and not be crazy theororists, lol.

Re: Georgetown EA 2011 Thread
last year was exactly the same as this year...except for what they called the status updates. also, the "crazy theorists" have been right about everything for the most part.mantra wrote:Hey can those who were admitted post stats of %, school rank, and what their gulc status change was?
