What made you decide against it? Did you get off the waitlist too late? Ive heard of people signing a lease at one school and then get accepted to GULCTFR wrote:I was accepted to GULC and decided against it last year, if anyone has any questions...

Re: Georgetown Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
So I am on the same boat as everyone on this threat. (waitlisted for transfer to GULC)
Anybody have an idea on what are our chances at this point? or how many people are actually on this waitlist?
Waitlist is not ranked = I don't believe this
Preferred List = I guess this really does exist but I didn't get that email so I guess I'm just on a regular WL
Based on what I see on the thread, I guess there are few deposit deadlines coming up 8/1 and 8/6
I hope at least one of us gets pulled from the waitlist either tomorrow or next week.

Has anyone been accepted and actually put a deposit down within the past 2 weeks? I'm sure people have had to make other plans like signing leases, OCIs, etc.

Re: Georgetown Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
my law school semester starts in two weeks. I hope spots open up soon, but at this point I guess it's highly unlikely. My last week as a SA and my anxiety is through the roof

No, I am assuming that would be the case if there were open seats. I have absolutely no idea how this process works and I couldn't be more anti-social my last week as an SA as I constantly refresh the status checker

I'm still waiting, but honestly don't really know how to justify going at this point. With no EIW, it almost makes no sense for me. Am I missing something? Not that it matters, an acceptance isn't coming lol.

It could be because I currently attend a TTT.

Re: Georgetown Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
Thanks for the response. I'm much more interested in this and have a resume geared towards it, but I would incur substantially more debt. And FWIW, I'd be coming from a T1 (not great PI/gov placement).Jessuf wrote:So you're doing it for prestige? Do you have a scholarship at your current school?biglaw99 wrote:It could be because I currently attend a TTT.
If you are big law or bust, it makes zero sense. If you would incur substantially more debt by attending GULC, it also makes zero sense. EIW just gives you access to firms anyway. The firms will still judge you based on your class rank at your old school plus the overall rank of your old school. It's not like top 5% at a TTT would be treated like a top 5% GULCer and get Cravath. If you are dead set on big law, then missing out on EIW and journal write on really hurts you. Might as well do OCI at your current school instead.Scoot Scoot wrote:I'm still waiting, but honestly don't really know how to justify going at this point. However, if you are interested in PI/gov, GULC is a great school for that, and I recommend transferring for that if you have a PI/gov resume. GULC has great courses and clinics, and DC is obviously the prime location for internships. Pretty much a sure bet that GULC places better in PI/gov than whatever your current school is.

Re: Georgetown Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
I decided to transfer to UT over Gtown (granted I missed EIW at both) but UT allows me to do a journal write on which is huge for me. I think that, even missing EIW, I would take Gtown over a TTT. The name of your degree granting instiution will follow you forever. You might not get the interviews for big law but the connections you could make at Gtown would be worth it in my opinion. Plus if you do well at Gtown and got on a journal (they will let you write on next summer btw) I think some firms would look at you as a 3l. I think alot of the analysis on these forums is very short sighted and not geared towards looking at a career. Even if you were to go solo one day I think it would be more beneficial to have the pedigree boost. These are considerations I took to heart in making my decision. Maybe they will backfire...but I will make that determination at the conclusion of my career, not at the end of 1l summer.

At this point I would appreciate a rejection, just so I know it's not going to happen last minute.

Re: Georgetown Transfer Waiting Thread 2013
I am also on Gtowns wait list.
What do you think I should do "IF" I get accepted. I am transferring from a TTT, but I have already been accepted to U of MN
U of MN - on a journal and in-state tuition
- and OCI's (I have networked a ton with firms in minneapolis and have a couple of Partners forwarding my resume and cover letter)
OR
Georgetown?

if you have connections, OCI, in-state, and a journal at UMN.... seems like a no brainer ....umnorgulc wrote:I am also on Gtowns wait list.

unless you get a job and they are cool w/ the Gtown switch last minute but that still may not be enough to overcome the journal/in-state thing
classic OTOH and OTOH

Anyone hear anything today? If acceptances haven't gone out after these two deadlines, then the class is probably full.
