Does Berkeley disallow committing to another school after signing a SIR?

Re: Stanford Transfer 2016
When you go to fill out the "Intent to Enroll" form with Berkeley, it states that you have to decline all the schools where you have open offers to attend, but it says that you are allowed to remain on waitlists. I believe that that means that they know a few people will accept, just to make sure they are covered even if they are waiting for other admission decisions to come in.bedelgeuse wrote:Anyone have any thoughts on the implications of accepting to Berkeley then reneging, should S get its shit togehter?
Therefore, I would not be too worried about doing that.

Re: Stanford Transfer 2016
I spoke with someone in admissions re: the SIR. Basically this:
I apply to Berk, H, S, Y. I get into Berk and H, now waiting on S and Y.
Signing SIR means I will decline H because I that school already rendered it's decision, but I can still have pending apps for S and Y. If I get into S and Y, I can accept their offer and not violate the SIR. You don't have to withdraw any apps.
Berk wants to know whether you're their top choice from the schools you already have been accepted to. If you're waitlisted or have outstanding apps, that's fine too so long as you let them know if you plan on going to another school.

Who has been admitted so far? I don't see anyone confirming on this thread.

Oh wow! Is that how they are sending admits this year? I guess no one knows at this point. Lucky!james_byrd74 wrote:YSorBust was admitted via email.ilikechocolate wrote:james_byrd74 wrote:Naw, we only have one confirmed offer of admission, and the admission's department has since stated that more will be going out.throwaway2018 wrote:Anybody else suspect that no more offers are going out?

Just one correction to this: we don't usually set a quota for the number of transfer students we'll take. Instead, we typically take all of the transfers whose CE score meets or exceeds the lowest qualifying score from the original pool of candidates. Also, the other journals do not typically require a write-on; I recruited some transfers to STLR with nothing more than a simple conversation.Charlie_Bradbury wrote:Nope! They will open up a transfer window for write-on after they release acceptances. It has two separate parts: the writing component and the editing component. Writing is a 4 day window and Editing is 8 days (but they can be completed in less time, apparently). Grace Zhou is the one I communicated with, and she was incredibly helpful. I have heard from other transfers that it is very difficult to write-on, because they only save about 3 spots for transfers, however, they also have a number of other journals that are viable options.throwaway2018 wrote:so... dumb question: Law Review write-on period has passed right?
ETA: don't sweat the complete stuff. It takes them about a week from the time they receive your outstanding documents for the status checker to update (if my experience is any indication).
For the record:
Submitted: 6/15
Complete: 6/28
Good luck all!

I got the same notice, and my app was a total hail mary. Not sure if that's a bad sign.Dynamite wrote:x2, my status checker shows the same message. Mine had a status in the past. The status fields are now blank, but at the top of the page it says in red "A decision letter has been sent."
I'm not going to assume anything, because it seems like an email would be better in the present situation than a letter, even with a rejection. They know people are tensely waiting.

Does yours not show "decision letter sent" in red at the top?Charlie_Bradbury wrote:When did all of your apps go complete? Your data point helps make the case that this status more likely than not indicates a rejection...moralsentiments wrote:I got the same notice, and my app was a total hail mary. Did they tell you they were going to eventually send the decision via email. It's weird that the status change is there but no email.specterdraperaxe wrote:Just called. I got dinged. Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Ok that seems like a for sure ding for me then. Why wouldn't they just deny over email instead of making everyone wait for the letter to come in the mail?specterdraperaxe wrote:They told me they sent it via snail mailmoralsentiments wrote:Did they tell you they were going to eventually send the decision via email. Hello, how many transfer students does Stanford typically accept. Any information would be very helpful.
Thank you.

Their 509 indicates 12-15 matriculate per year. I would imagine they admit a few more than that (18-20 maybe?)bellepepper wrote:Hello, how many transfer students does Stanford typically accept. Any information would be very helpful.

Same here. I wonder since there are people knowing they're already admitted, and people knowing they're dinged, does that mean we are waitlisted?throwaway2018 wrote:So who's still waiting ITT? The suspense is killing me...

Re: Stanford Transfer 2016
I was thinking that, but so far there's only been 1 person who was admitted (T14 top 2%). Given the demographic on this site tends to lean towards higher numbers, I would be surprised if he were he only TLSer who got accepted.332159644@qq.com wrote:Same here. Since his stats were so high, Stanford may have expedited his decision to get ahead of Harvard's deadline. My understanding is they have been known to do that for top candidates - see the 2014 transfer thread.
Either way, I wouldn't put Stanford in the win column just yet, but it's not a bad sign by any means.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
