Yeah I'll definitely apply if i don't get in ED here. I'm in at GULC, but NU seems to be leagues better for transfersTraynor Brah wrote:I mean it's not like NU has bad employment stats for transfers, at all. I want to say that all but two or three of the transfer class there last year got biglaw SAs.

Re: UChicago Transfer Thread 2015
Thank you. And yeah, why would I be listening to you as an existing ED applicant?Traynor Brah wrote:I mean, it may be the case that ED exists to give a tiny statistical bump to folks who are willing to bind themselves to matriculating. If that's the prevailing logic behind the ED program, maybe the people who applied April 15 are incrementally more attractive than the people who apply on May 15 (maybe the people who waited until closer to the deadline going back and forth and may be more prone to trying to back out of the commitment?) I don't know.
Congrats on finishing finals, though!
My two cents: if there isn't some serious need to be in Chicago, considering how small the ED bump is supposed to be, if it exists at all (and really everything I've heard is the latter), I would err on the side of having flexibility and just submitting it early without EDing. If you have stats to be seriously considered at U of C you're going to get in at one of NYU or Columbia. ( <- that said this might not be objective advice b/c I really want to be accepted ED to UoC)

It's more an issue of risk mitigation. I don't have a serious need to be in Chicago. It's just that it's one of maybe 4 schools I'd consider transferring to, and my grades are good enough now - I just don't know if I want to skip what's probably my best chance at a top 5 school in case my grades aren't so hot this semester (even if it doesn't give a bump for ED vs. regular, they do only use your first semester grades), or even if I want to transfer at all. Now I can think about it with no finals left.

Hmm. If you tell me your class rank, school, and geographic background, I can say whether or not I think you should ED. My advice will not be contingent on the merits of your application relative to my own -- I promise.

Funny because the clear winner here was transfer instead of stay, but I had posted a similar poll in the choosing a law school forum and "stay" was by far the clear winner.

Hmm. Yeah that's tough. Either way, even if you drop a bit, I imagine you're pretty much a lock at Duke. If Southeast and Texas are important regions to you, 140K debt there is golden, IMO. But yeah I can see why UC is attractive, too (obviously). And getting that extra month and a half for your SO is a huge deal. Good luck either way dude

Thanks man, same to you. I'll figure it out in the next few days but currently leaning away from ED.

I think so long as you have submitted everything by the deadline you are fine
but why on earth would you ED (per your other post)? You're getting into Chicago even with a "bad" semester but you've got a serious shot at H. (assuming you don't have a personal need to be in Chi, of course)

Idk, based on the past T4 decision making for transfers seems pretty arbitrary. Since they all get applications from top students all over the country they can choose based off of weird factors if they want to.

Hard to say, especially without knowing what school you're at (considering UC seems to place a big premium on ties to the Midwest. If you're at like UIUC, then I would think you're good no problem even with that kind of drop. Best of luck on the rest of the grades, and with your choice!

Hey OP could you add a poll so people can write if they submitted ED? I have a feeling that more people have than merely those who have posted (either preferring to be anonymous or because they were too lazy) so hopefully this will give us a better idea of how many people are in the ED applicant pool?

Good idea.
This is OP, everyone. PM this account your stats (GPA/School rank probably all that's necessary) and timeline and what not and I'll keep the OP updated. We can make this valuable for folks in future years, as there is not much data out there

Hey! I am applying ED! Waiting on my last letter of rec.
I go to a tier 4 school in Chicago. I was told UChicago doesn't accept students from my school but we shall see.

I thought URM didn't provide a boost in transfer admissions-is there any evidence of this?Luchi91 wrote: AND I am a Black, Nigerian woman hehe

there is no evidence of a URM bump, so far as I am aware.PourMeTea wrote:I thought URM didn't provide a boost in transfer admissions-is there any evidence of this?Luchi91 wrote: AND I am a Black, Nigerian woman hehe

Does anyone know if they do interviews for ED applicants? I haven't heard anything yet - I've been under review since 4/24

My undergrad GPA and LSAT numbers weren't hot.
My law school first semester GPA is a 3.733
I've participated in two 1L mock trials and my team won both times.
I have a competitive summer public interest job.
All that to say, hopefully I am competitive, given my school's tier and my undergrad numbers.

I don't think anyone in this thread has seen any action, though, since our respective original "under review" status.

Re: UChicago Transfer Thread 2015
LSAT and UGPA don't really matter for Transfers, and your class rank is much more valuable than your GPA because each school's median GPA is different- if you provide your class rank (or just compare it with other threads on this board) you should be able to tell your chances more accurately. Also not sure if URM makes a differenceLuchi91 wrote:Hey! I am applying ED! Waiting on my last letter of rec.

LOL I mentioned my ethnicity for kicks and giggles.
I read that Admissions will offer interview if they see it necessary.
And I am 27 out of 264. Very bottom of top 10%
