My guess is I will go complete sometime next week and then only have days before my MSU deposit is due, and I believe I have to withdraw my other applications then. (I informed GW about the timeframe)

I certainly won't mind going to MSU because I want to be closer to my family in Michigan, but obviously GW is way better and I would rather go there, even if that means not being as close to home as I would like.
Hi Birdman, I'm in the same boat as you. MSU was the first law school that got back to me with a decision and I was accepted as well. I just paid my enrollment deposit today, and I still haven't heard back from GW and the other law schools I have applied too.

I spoke with Caroline (sp?) from the admissions office. She told me, once applications are complete than they should have a decision in a week. It may take longer tho.

I'm from Michigan too. I wonder...if I end up practicing in MI, at what point is it better to stick with the regional school? I don't know if you have ever thought about this, but...when is it worth going to an out of state higher ranked tier 2 school instead of the lower ranked tier 2 school like MSU? I hear a lot of people in previous threads say that once you hit the tier 2 mark, it no longer matters what tier 2 school you go too. If you have any input on this matter, please do share. Thanks.
Actually, after the top 14/17 (arguably t30) schools or so, ranking across the board nationally don't matter. It's all regional after the top 14/17 (arguably t30) schools. Go to the best school in the region that you want to practice if you aren't going to a t14/17/30.

XxSpyKEx, I am coming to this realization that you are right. It seems like the tier 2 law school rankings are every unpredictable every year, wheras atleast the T30 law school rankings are some what stable. To me, that's a potential drawback. So, I can understand where you are coming from.
Birdman wrote:We'll, where I want to practice has changed for me recently. I live in SoCal right now, and I don't particularly like the culture here. I want to practice in D.C. and work for the federal government. MSU has moved to the top of the list for me because they have the semester in D.C. program, and considering I already have ties to D.C. and access to an alumni network there because I went to GW for undergrad, MSU seems like a good choice. That and I'd like to live closer to my home in Grosse Pointe, MI, at least for a little bit anyways. With that being said... I don't think all tier 2's are created equal. Everyone has their own unique set of circumstances that can make one better than another for that particular person.
Good luck working for the federal government leaving MSU  D.C. is the most competitive market in the country. Federal government in D.C. is super COMPETITIVE (of course, it also depends specifically where you want to work, but generally speaking, federal government is really, really competitive). Just to put this into perspective, most people at a t14 can't get fed government (even if they wanted it), especially not in D.C. In other words, if you are dreaming of working at the US DoJ, SEC, IRS, etc., just realize there's a 99.99% chance that you won't get it.

The "stability" of the rankings of schools has little to do with national reach of the law schools. The only truly national schools are the ones in the t14. The t14 is national largely because of its alumni base. After the t14/17, your decision on where to attend law school should really be based on region. Of course, rankings are useful for helping to determine what school to attend in that region, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to attend, e.g., Hofstra over UMD when you want to work in Michigan.

Haha thanks? I haven't accepted MSU yet, and probably won't. Just got accepted into USD this week. Still waiting to hear back from GW and Michigan. DOJ has the honors program where they hire new attorneys straight from law school and that is not based on school (they'll hire from anywhere), it's based on experience during law school and commitment to criminal justice. I posted a link of the schools they took the past year in a different thread a while back.

Maybe I won't but I came to law school with several goals all which I've completed. 1. Kick ass first year. Well I did very well and now I'm transferring. 2. Get a summer internship in criminal law (currently at the PD's office in SD, and speaking everyday in court because I'm certified) 3. Transfer to a better school (which should at least be USD)

Edit: Here's the DOJ link http://www.justice.gov/oarm/arm/hp/lawschools.htm
There's a TON of applicants for DoJ, and my guess is that a a lot of them have shown a commitment to criminal justice in law school and otherwise, so there's a real question of what the other selection factors are. I get the feeling that the quality of law school attended has to be an appreciable factor considered. In any event, thanks for the link, that's actually pretty useful. I'm crossing my fingers for DoJ after my clerkship. Sure would beat working at some law firm imo.

In response to Joonhp (who PMed me) and the rest wondering or curious, I did not know I was complete when accepted. I went into July 4th weekend incomplete, then received an email Wednesday evening (EST time) that I was in. After going back to my status checker, I found out that I had gone complete 6/5 and accepted 6/6. Best of luck to everyone waiting it out. I know how horrible the wait is between last year's cycle and this cycle. And as for finding rhyme or reason in the process, don't do it. It will drive you INSANE.

Has anyone got any information from GW after mailing their seat deposit in? I only received an email that said they received my check and have forwarded it to the cashier. That was last thursday and the check still has not been cashed. Since then I have not heard a word ... Am I worried for no reason (product of summer classes & going through cycle two years in a row)?

hey, can those who've gotten in post their stats ? Thanks !

And also .... would it be reasonable to assume that the later you receive a response, the lower your chances of acceptance are -_- ?

I also went complete 6/5 and got my acceptance early evening 6/6.

Stats: Top 30% at Top 25 school.

I'm still debating whether the cost is worth it, but I think for what I want to do, the proximity to DC legal jobs and externships outweighs the added cost. And hey, I got a really cheap first year, so that evens everything out, right?

The heading of the acceptance email says "GW Law - Transfer Admission"

I wouldn't worry too much about the status checker. Mine still says complete with a date of 06/21/11, yet I was accepted about a week ago.
