Can you still graduate with honors from GULC if you transfer?
Here's what I found
Graduation honors for students who transfer to Georgetown Law after their first year of law school or for students who visit another institution will be based solely on grades earned at the Law Center. This policy applies only to magna cum laude and cum laude graduation honors. To be eligible for consideration for the award of summa cum laude, a graduate must have completed at least 71 credits at the Law Center.

ORDER OF THE COIF, GEORGETOWN CHAPTER
The Order of the Coif was established in 1912 to recognize graduating students who achieved an exemplary cumulative grade point average. Graduating students whose cumulative grade point averages place them in the top 10% of the class are elected to membership in the Order, the national law school honor society for the encouragement of scholarship and advancement of ethical standards in the legal profe

So basically transfers are exempt from summa cum laude.

Hmm Order of the Coif, from what I see from your post, you need to be top 10% in order to be inducted and transfer status doesn't matter. That's pretty awesome =)

My status is still at Application Received, although I believe I am complete. I e-mailed the admissions office to see if they have received my LoR but haven't heard back yet. I haven't seen any changes in my status since I submitted.

I called the admissions office yesterday to ask whether or not they have received my supplemental form, and they told me to call back Friday because they are trying to catch up from the snow days. So it is going to take a couple of days for them to update the system.

You have until March 15th to be complete I believe so if you are going to apply, might want to get the ball rolling

Correct. From the admissions office..."Due to the snow blizzards, our office was closed most of last week. We are doing our best to open and process mails to complete transfer applications as soon as possible. You will be able to log onto your status check by the end of next week to check that your application is complete."

Sounds like they are def a little backlogged but that info about whether you are complete should be available possibly at the end of this week by phone or next week via status check. Sooo no real advantage to getting my stuff in early other than I don't have to work on it now

Question: Is it kosher to say that one of the reasons you want to go to Georgetown is because of their public interest LRAP? Would they be more likely to reject me b/c I might use these funds? Thanks.

Need you advice guys:

1st in section, 5 of 1**, top 4ish to 5ish percent, t3-state flagship (think Ole Miss, Wyoming, etc.). I am sending out my GULC app this weekend, probably tonight.

Should I do the full time/part time option? What are the negative to being a pt. student for the rest of my law school career? I expect GULC pt is better than t3, top 4% and it would be nice to have a pretty much guaranteed t14 spot if I can get in EA, even part time. Thoughts? Any COA ramifications for financial aid? SA stigmas? Thanks.

I was going to do the PT option until I found out you don't do OCI for another year (until Fall 2011), and it will take 4 years to graduate. Increases the time and cost severely.

You aren't talking about transfers are you? Thanks but my question was for specific to transfer pt admissions. :)

No I am specifically talking about transfers. You enter as a 2E, and you do OCI at the start of your 3E year. You graduate after 4E.

When I said it takes 4 years to graduate, I was including the first year at a different institution. So you would spend 3 years at GULC.

This is information that I obtained through the GULC admissions office.

I can't believe I just applied to Georgetown University Law Center. This is the craziest, most surreal feeling. I have researched transferring for years b/c I knew I could not get into this caliber of school via 0L admissions. I know I have an uphill battle to get in, but I have a good shot. WOW!

Yeah, I thought you were talking about 4 years at GULC thus assumed you were talking about 0L admissions. :)

I know I gave you shit in some thread or another about something (I can't even remember what, I just remember arguing with a slinky, lol) but I've read your posts for months and am rooting for you 100%. I hope it (and/or better results) come through!!

Best of luck. Did you end up doing FT or the PT/FT option?

Thanks disco barred and bkthunder. That's funny that you remember arguing with a slinky, lol, it is pretty memorable. I am tempted to change the avatar here and there but how would anyone remember me? :P

I did end up applying for the ft/pt option. My wife was worried that they'd just automatically stick me in the pt program if they accepted me but it seems like this is not really their practice from what I've seen on the transferapps database. It would be great to have that acceptance regardless if it is full time or part time, IMO, and my wife finally agreed. What do you guys think of that decision? Good luck on your apps guys.

I just applied FT. I really don't want to delay things one more year. For me the decision would be pretty close to stay or leave anyways, so that would be a pretty big tiebreaker if I got in PT.

However, that may work for some people, especially if you have a family. However, I'm single with no attachments so I'm pretty ready to jump into the working world ASAP.

However, I must say the more and more I read about GULC, the more I want to go there... even over T10 schools like UVA or Mich. I want to work in politics in DC... other than HYS it might just be my best option for that.

Living in DC would be sweet no doubt, but UVA pretty consistently beats Georgetown in the relevant categories - more judges, more senators/congressmen, more placement in top DC firms, etc. It's not night and day, but UVA is definitely the best school feeding into DC / the political world after HYS, and there's a noticeable gap between it and Georgetown.

I would go to GULC over UVA in a heartbeat. UVA seems too cliquey, I'd hate to have to come into that during the second year. I think opportunities as far as transfers go, would be comparable.
