Have we reached a consensus that CLS is done sending out acceptances?

I heard a lady singing outside my window, but she was only moderately overweight.

Top 10% (closer to top 5, but school doesn't narrow) at a T1

On the extremely unlikely odds that I get into both NYU and Columbia, can anyone make the case for Columbia over NYU, besides its slightly higher ranking? It seems far less transfer-friendly.

CLS is transfer-friendly, at least through my limited experience thus far. CLS places more into BigLaw than any other school in the country. CLS has the second lowest under-employment score in the country. CLS is in a part of Manhattan where housing is reasonably priced, but you can actually walk to campus.bdj426 wrote:On the extremely unlikely odds that I get into both NYU and Columbia, can anyone make the case for Columbia over NYU, besides its slightly higher ranking? NYU is known to be very transfer-friendly - they have a separate writing competition for transfers, and save spots at OCI, more than columbia, which actually puts transfer students at an advantage over traditional students at OCI. All of my interactions with NYU staff and faculty have been much more positive than at CLS.assorted wrote:Just got in as well! Re: Columbia Transfer Waiting Thread 2014
This is the first time I've heard of NYU "saving spots" for transfers. I am pretty certain that they are in the same lottery as NYU 1Ls, the only difference is that NYU 1Ls bid deadline is earlier than the NYU transfers, for obvious reasons. But the actual lottery isn't commence until after all bids for transfers are in.
CLS transfers and CLS 1Ls participate in the same OCI lottery. CLS gives you TRANSER-specific information re: OCI stats. In reality, the numbers just don't lie: CLS places more people into full-time, JD-required jobs than any other school in the country.

Interesting. NYU's Career Services office told me they save spots for transfers because the lottery occurs before the transfers are all in.CounselorNebby wrote:This is the first time I've heard of NYU "saving spots" for transfers. Considering every other T6 does 100% lottery after transfers are in wouldn't make sense for NYU to do something different.bdj426 wrote:Interesting. I mean, what do you mean by "transfer-friendly"? In terms of getting a job, CLS is remarkably transfer friendly; in fact, transfers even do better than the average CLS student at EIP.bdj426 wrote:NYU is known to be very transfer-friendly - they have a separate writing competition for transfers, and save spots at OCI, more than columbia, which actually puts transfer students at an advantage over traditional students at OCI. If you are talking about social integration, then honestly you may have chosen the wrong way to create a super tight network in law school. Columbia, NYU and Harvard are known for having more integrated transfer populations than Chicago's, which is more insular. So of course transfers socialize but from what I can tell 2L interactions are very journal/club board/clinic driven, and 3L at both schools everyone will just check out. Transferring in - correct me if I'm mistaken - you won't be serving on an exec board, in a fall clinic, or most likely on a journal. Since classes aren't in sections anymore (and grades are far less consequential), they won't be as core to the student experience.
Of course, it would be nice for some actual 3L or grads who transferred in to either school to comment. I think generally transfers will be treated identically to those who started at 1L's at either CLS or NYU, it's just that your prior institutional engagement will be different and that might impact how integrated you feel with the rest of the student body (how "transfer friendly" the school is?)

Not arguing what makes sense, just relaying what NYU's Career Services office told me.CounselorNebby wrote:Considering every other T6 does 100% lottery after transfers are in wouldn't make sense for NYU to do something different.bdj426 wrote:Interesting.
