Thanks! I received my complete e-mail from Columbia admissions July 10, received my admit letter today, with a scanned letter dated 7/18.

Good luck to everybody.

My lawnet is finally working. It took about 2 business days after I deposited.

Email them. I emailed them about mine and they emailed me back to confirm they had received it. It never got checked, but my application went complete. I don't think the status checker is automated, so if an application is ready to go, whoever inputs information to the status checker may just check complete instead of checking every box then checking complete. I'd trust what they say in a response to your email over the status checker.
I did that, no response at all. Infuriating, especially now that decisions are rolling out. I want to make sure they're at least looking at it. I'll call again tomorrow.

Funny story, I got a call from a 212 number today. I excitedly picked up the phone. When the person on the other end said, "This is [NAME], I'm just calling to congratulate you on your acceptance to NYU," I almost blurted out, "Damn it, I thought you were Columbia!" I'm still shocked at how close I was to saying that.

When NYU called me, I didn't have service so I got a voicemail from an unknown number. I was sorely disappointed that it was them, since we knew them in advance.

I emailed to ask them why I havent seen movement since 6/20. Their response:

Got an email from Career Services with confirmation that deposit went through and immediate requests to send them my resume. Still no Lawnet.

That's weird. I deposited on the evening of 7/16 and mine started working on the morning of 7/18.

My housing app has been "under review" for 2 days now. Apparently the admissions office has to approve it before I can be put on the waitlist. I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask them to move it along. I'm getting a bit nervous because the official waitlist comes out on Friday and I want to have myself on that list.

I started poking around on the off campus housing postings. I emailed some people that were really close to the law school, but who knows if they are decent human beings/the place is available/etc. I'm really pulling for university housing.

If anyone is interested in rooming together or has a room for me to rent, please PM.

Hmm, my guess is they are vague with every applicant that has not yet been accepted. I'm also guessing that a slew of decisions will come out Monday, since I believe a bunch of admitted applicants have to submit their deposit by tomorrow. Those that do not will cause more spots to open up. This is all pure speculation, so you should probably ignore everything I'm saying. Go team.

Would make sense. The only issue is that it doesnt seem like they admitted enough students to fill up their spots to begin with. There are something like 6 acceptances on this thread.

My university housing paperwork went through and I am now officially on the waitlist. Yay. The waitlist #'s come out tomorrow. Hopefully I'm not too far down.

So uh, apparently you need to submit a final undergrad transcript? Did anyone see that on the website? I looked after they sent me that email (a month after they got everything), and I still don't see that requirement anywhere. Also, it would have been great if they didn't check the "Transcripts Received" box on my status checker if they didn't get all the transcripts needed....

Great, now they probably won't make a decision on my file until September.

Our 1L class was also overenrolled so if they are trying to hit a certain number that might be affecting things.

Wait a second. What the heck is Columbia doing? No offense to those admits, but a bunch of people (including me) with Top 2-3% in T20 schools are not admitted. So, we are actually waitlisted? In terms of softs, I have good softs (waitlisted last year by Columbia).

Seriously, is Columbia playing yield protection on transfer applicants??? WTH is Columbia doing???

I think it's more likely that they're just behind on processing apps. Several people haven't even had their apps processed yet. It'll be an interesting cycle.

Ehh I don't want to think about being mistakenly admitted. Already deposited at CLS, met with career services twice, applied to housing, gotten an email address, withdrawn from all other schools including my previous law school, etc.

Transfers have always seem more unpredictable than regular admissions.

Where did you find your Columbia ID number? I can't find mine anywhere and I need it to register for housing.

I had to call the admissions office and ask for it. It says on the site that it is in the acceptance letter, but it isn't as far as I can tell. But the woman gave me my # over the phone.

I've been complete since June and there are people that went complete in July that are in, so I dont think thats it. Also, they are admitting people with relatively low stats while skipping over higher ranked people. I dont get it.

I don't get it either.

To be fair to those who have gotten in, it's not as if their stats are outside CLS' range. My working theory is that the admits so far have clearly been within CLS' range, but are probably more reaches at HYS, whereas those who have not been admitted probably have a better shot at HYS. My guess is that CLS believes they are going to get the best possible class if they begin by admitting the people who will almost certainly attend, because it's the likely "best" school to which they will be accepted. Conversely, if CLS started with all the 3%>, T20ish people, these applicants would probably be holding out for HYS until the bitter end, thus increasing the possibility that the first group (that is, those who CLS has actually admitted so far) would settle for another school. Also, CLS realizes it is viewed as better than the other T6, so they probably know that they can extend an offer to the T20ish people late without risking losing the first group of people they have already admitted.

I'm not saying the above isn't susceptible to criticism (for example, if they think the T20 folks will jump for HYS, why wouldn't the think the notch below wouldn't jump for CLS?), but I think it somewhat logically explains why the people with "better" stats are still waiting.

ETA: CLS probably also believes that the 3%>, T20ish people are more likely to stay at their original school.

I think I would still choose Penn over Columbia, but they sure are taking a while.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
