Checkin' in. Submitted earlier this month but still missing a few items- should be complete by next week (grades were released last week). Top 20% at 40-45. DC native. Chances or any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Bidding doesn't close until July 6, so you have some time.

Hey hey! Is everyone already situated with housing? I thought about living to VA to cut costs but was advised against it. That said, I need a roommate! I'm a 31 year old female. I don't drink or smoke and I study in the library most of the time. If anyone is interested I'd love to chat!

For what it's worth, I just graduated from Georgetown as a transfer student. I'm happy to answer any questions.

Was it worth it? Did you do OCI/EIW? If so, how did interviewers seem to react to your transfer status? Did you do write on? If so, did you get the journal you wanted? Did you do write on at your former school? (Basically any question a potential transfer student would ask, I have lol)doctoroflaw91 wrote:For what it's worth, I just graduated from Georgetown as a transfer student. Yes, 100% completely worth it (at least for me). In general, being at Georgetown gave me far greater access to employers, learning opportunities, and chances to take classes that involved a lot of field work, as opposed to sitting in a classroom.EncyclopediaOrange wrote:Was it worth it? In terms of OCI, yes, I did it, and I didn't think that the interviewers viewed me any differently than the students who completed their 1L at Georgetown. That being said, I did transfer from a T1 to Georgetown, so perhaps the perception would be different for someone coming from, say, a T3 (simply because there a better point of comparison as between a transfer whose GPA is coming from a T1, as opposed to a T3). I would suggest that you have a decent answer to the "Why did you transfer?" question, other than the obvious "Because I wanted a better job." For me, I spoke about Georgetown's extensive experiential learning opportunities (clinics, practicum courses, etc.).
I did get on a journal at Georgetown, but I didn't really have much preference as to which one. Because I made the decision to transfer during the spring of my 1L year (I applied early), I did not do write-on at my 1L school. In my opinion, journal entailed a lot of busy work without much benefit. I did get published, which was nice, but you always have the option to write a paper and get it independently published on your own by submitting it to a journal.

Do you know any students who transferred in from T3 and T4's? How would you say they did? Are you saying Journal wasn't really worth it? How were your grades at GULC after transferring?doctoroflaw91 wrote:EncyclopediaOrange wrote:Was it worth it? Did you do OCI/EIW? If so, how did interviewers seem to react to your transfer status? I sure do, and they did great. Most transfers know that they have to establish a new GPA, so they work their butts off to do it. At graduation, there were quite a number of cum laude and magna cum laude people from the transfer section. I know that's just anecdote, but hopefully it's helpful and reassuring. I think journal can go either way. I didn't really get asked about it at OCI, despite the fact that it was on my resume. However, if you want to clerk, many judges prefer that you had membership on a journal and got published. I was on a secondary journal that required less work than some of the bigger journals (main, criminal, etc.).Elfy wrote:Do you know any students who transferred in from T3 and T4's? My grades were almost exactly the same. Granted, I took a lot of GPA-inflation classes, and wrote a lot of papers. I would start my papers super early in the semester (think, the 1st or 2nd week), and then work on them bit by bit throughout the semester, frequently setting up meetings to discuss with the professor and improve upon drafts, research, etc. Generally, seminars and practicum courses tended to stray a bit from the normal curve (read: professors had more leeway to grade as they saw fit). I'm happy to answer any more questions about those classes if you have any!

On that point, I'm not entirely sure. Of the ones I can think of, most of them went for the government route, and were successful.Elfy wrote:That's good to hear actually lol.
