As usual, my good friend Opera is much too kind in praising me like this, but I always appreciate it.

Haha, I do actually have a pair of alts, but it's claimed that my writing style is so distinctive that it would be pointless for me to use them. I can't even make anonymous employment forum posts without people speculating. Dammit, lol!

Your writing style is VERY obvious. I'd compare it to Lorelai's mom on Gilmore Girls or some well-mannered young heiress.

Not an heiress (I wish), but attempting to be well mannered because I am known to my school's administration and many of my classmates. The anonymity fail was my fault, but still.

Congrats A'nold. We're not e-buddies, or even e-acquaintances, but I know how hard the transfer process can be and that makes us simpatico.

Well, classes start much later at UW b/c we are on a quarter system, so I get a one month extension on my summer vacation. I don't know what I'm going to do for the next month. Maybe get extremely settled in, focus on ESPN a lot, fish, you know, the really important things. That or gun. As the dust settles, many unanswered questions have popped up. The transfer to clerkship mystery is tripping me out and already lighting a fire under me to do well academically, especially next year. I am not convinced that all hope is lost for transfers strictly b/c of the LOR situation and "1 year of grades" thing. Well, at least for state clerkships. A state supreme court of even state appellate court clerkship would likely serve me almost as well as a federal clerkship with my future plans. I don't think many people can truly appreciate how well regarded UW is in the NW unless they've lived here for awhile. A graduate from my firm said, with a 100% straight face, that UW is far and away a better school than GULC when I mentioned the schools I had applied to. Everyone nodded in agreement. A LOT of school pride and loyalty in these parts. The peeps around here don't just think UW is on par with national schools, they truly believe it is superior. I'm convinced this thinking holds true for everthing around here (and other cities like Portland) except for maybe the biggest of biglaw or federal level clerkships.

Opera: HAHA! I've always known every one of your anon posts were yours, b/c you speak very eloquently and politely. You exude kindness and goodheartedness. :)

A'nold: You might want to plan on clerking after a few years in private practice. Many judges like to see that, and it frees you from the yolk of the federal hiring plan plus gives you a much better window to work on grades / publication / professor contacts.

Thanks disco. I might go this route if the traditional path does not pan out. Obviously, I also have to get great grades.

What kind of things would you do to make yourself more competitive while out in the work force? While it is unlikely, what if I graduate high in my class at UW but due to timing miss the clerkship boat? Would I then suddenly become competitive for the more prestigeous clerkships after practicing for a few years?

Not trying to "derail" this thread (if that is even possible, lol), but I think this is a very pertinent conversation for us transfers.

Dearest A'nold,

I have been a lurker on this board for almost a year and have not seen a persuasive reason to post anything until now. I feel really happy for you. Here are your much deserved congratulations. Be well!

A'nold must really be a swell of a guy if it took so long for someone to make such a comment, which must be on everyone's mind. If it were almost anyone else who asked whether they should even apply to UW prolly almost every answer would contain the phrase "is retaking the LSAT and reapplying next cycle an option?". But just not here. Anyways, don't mind me. And congrats again A'nold.

I think it is important for people to keep in mind that UW is a good fit for him because of his career goals and his connections to the markets he is looking to break into. I don't know a whole lot about a'nold, but from what I've gathered via some PMs we've exchanged, I would venture to say that UW is a good fit for him.

I'm just wondering why didn't he make it into T-14? I was under impression that anyone at the top of their class almost anywhere could do that...

UW really is highly regarded in the Pacific Northwest, A'nold is definitely correct.

Retaking the LSAT and applying next cycle wasn't raised as an option mostly because this is the transfer forum.
