Congrats to you as well! Date under review / numbers? When did you get your email?

Under review on 6/24, with an unofficial transcript. 3.8x/top 5% @ at school in the 50s. two years out of undergrad before i went to law school. Lots of softs (published, athlete in college, clubs, frat, student government) and some diversity (ethnicity and work stuff geared towards it). Got my email this morning, 7/8

I never knew that being in a frat, getting drunk, and paddling dudes was a good soft. But I digress...

So....what up with Berkeley? Have they sent out rejections yet? Or do they just wait until the end to send out a large jumble of them?

i still haven't heard anything either way, and i've been under review since 6/22. was hoping to make a lateral-ish transfer for personal reasons. oh well.

I am in the same boat. I am trying to hold out for Berkeley but the July 15th deposit deadline is coming fast.

I have not received my snailmail packet, nor have I heard anything about a deposit deadline from Berkeley. I wonder if that means I can wait a bit longer...

(Gee, maybe the rule about third party retraction of an offer comes into play.)

I have it second hand that a berkeley adcom said that they try to have everything wrapped up by the 15th - so don't hold your breath about a wave of post july 15th acceptances.

I just don't see how that works though. They make people confirm their plans to attend on that date -- so wouldn't they almost certainly have some newly opened slots again, from those who aren't going to matriculate? What about filling the slots of those (and there are certain to be some) who pay their seat deposit anyway, but are still waiting on Stanford, CLS and other schools?

Also, haven't we heard of some people who are offered a transfer slot almost right up until the first day of class, or does that sort of thing only happen for 1L admissions cycles?

Though the admissions letter did say to respond by July 15 "in fairness to our other transfer applicants."

Seems to suggest that at least some additional offers will be made after the 15th.

My speculation:

I have been in review since 6/22. I have a large deposit due for another school Thursday so I politely asked if I could get a decision before then. The (exceptionally) nice Adcom lady said to send an email, and it's up to the Dean if he will release his decision early. I asked if this would hurt my chances at all, and she said it would not.

An hour later I got a rejection email. My guess is they have an internal waitlist, and after July 15th, they'll pull a couple of people off that list to replace those who decide to go for HYS. I must have been a clear reject but they wanted to send out all the rejections at the same time.

Complete speculation. Who knows.

My source is a friend who was accepted by berkeley 2 weeks ago.

My guess is that they try to guess their yield, and make the vast majority of their offers before july 15th - that way, they can capture some of the best students who would otherwise go to HYS.

However I also don't think they will offer NO spots after july 15th. I think there probably will be some acceptances post july 15th, but not a major wave.

For anyone who went through this last year - were people accepted up until august?

I know there is apparently a ton of housing options but I want to live as close as possible to the law school. Considering I don't know a single person out there and have only been to San Fran (8 years ago), I figure I better at least be close to school.

I was wondering what address I should be google mapping to when looking at these craigslist places. There are a bunch of different addresses on the website and I dont want to end up linking to something on the UG campus.

Stinger, I just went two weeks ago to visit for my first time. I'm married, so I'm trying to get away from the campus (it's expensive!). But, I noticed that most of the close student housing is directly south of the campus (Around telegraph avenue I think). All the frat houses and such are south eastish, up at the top of the hill. Directly north in the hills is nice pricier type housing, and west from campus is not as nice.

Actually, I walked into a few of the apartments that I found on craigslist. Make sure that you do a walk through. The few apartments that I saw looked great on craigslist but crappy in person. My wife will be spending an entire week at the end of August looking for a place. GL.

It's the Bancroft Way address (~2750 Bancroft way gets you close).

FYI, it's on the SE corner of the main campus, across the street from the stadium (as the most visible nearby landmark)

You can all tell me I'm a terrible person for this (and I am, I know), but can someone tell me honestly -- what happens if you say yes to Boalt tomorrow, but DON'T withdraw HYS apps? If you tell Boalt yes tomorrow (when they absolutely know that HYS have just barely started admitting) then in a week or two get in to HYS, is Boalt going to tell that school? And can that school then withdraw your offer of admission? Or are you just a bad person? Somehow, the lack of seat deposit/ "word of honor" makes it seem way worse.

I'm sorry this is jerky, but I find it hard to believe that I'm the only person who has this on their mind... anyone know what the repercussions of this might be?

I'd be worried about C&F. Your intention to commit will likely be reported to LSAC, which then likely notifies other schools to which you are applying. Assuming you renege for a different school, I would worry that LSAC (via the reneged school) would let the Bar know of your dishonesty (when the Bar requests your law school info, do they request a LSAC report as well to look for any kind of reported violations?) I wouldn't be surprised if they did; but this is admittedly all (paranoid) speculation.

So what happens if you get into S? Will you be committing an ethical breach by committing to Berkeley and then breaking your commitment to Berkeley to commit to S?
