What are your goals? Did you petition for the HLR?evaus wrote:also in. email. already accepted harvard . . . but tempted to renege. thoughts?

i did the hlr writing competition in may; won't hear back about it for another week or two probably. my goals are elite (preferably conservative) appellate clerkship, possibly scotus, biglaw, and eventually academia.randomstudent wrote:What are your goals? In that case, I'd be tempted to go with Yale. If you just wanted to do BigLaw, Harvard might be more comparable to Yale, but Yale has significantly better numbers for clerkships and academia. Part of it is personal preference though. I'm sure this has been debated endlessly elsewhere, but some of the commonly noted differences include:evaus wrote:i did the hlr writing competition in may; won't hear back about it for another week or two probably. my goals are elite (preferably conservative) appellate clerkship, possibly scotus, biglaw, and eventually academia.randomstudent wrote:What are your goals? 1. Smaller class size at Yale
2. More theoretical emphasis at Yale v. more practical focus at Harvard
3. Less emphasis on grades and more emphasis on networking at Yale
Either way, though, you're in a great position! Congratulations!

I'd also say Yale if your goal is academia. Though I do remember that someone mentioned Yale transfers complained some BigLaw firms were hesitant to interview precisely because Yale is so linked to academia.

Actually most S.Ct. Justices come from HLS, then YLS. Both schools are great but if you're looking to land a spot on the S.Ct. someday (hey, dream big) HLS will have a slight edge. For ANYTHING else, I'd go with Yale. Big congrats.

Haha as awesome as a seat on the Court would be, I'm definitely just thinking about a clerkship right now.beebee19 wrote:Actually most S.Ct. Justices come from HLS, then YLS. I appreciate everyone's thoughts . . . I know this is a high-class problem to have. I'm thrilled (and overwhelmed) to be in at either school, much less both.

go yale ... as the poster above me said, better chance at going S.Ct. (adjust for numbers). plus you will be surrounded by the elite... although you did HLR's comp, you never know if that experience itself was to benefit some unseen aspect you've yet to consider

Hey how do you guys think about biglaw chances at Yale?
I am not qualified for clerkship, sadly, so goals at NYC big law.
Would the law firms view Yale transfers negatively at Fall Interview because it is so related to academia?

mez, no one is gonna view YLS or HLS negatively. They are the two best. Among the two, you might get slight advantages going to one over the other, depending on your goals, but absolutely speaking you're fine with either.
Bethany, I suspect more will trickle in next week since decisions were supposed to be released next week. Probably a few exceptional students were accepted today (which is evidenced by the fact one was already accepted to HLS). Just my hunch.

LSAC Statement on Good Admissions practices http://www.lsac.org/docs/default-source ... oodadm.pdf
See page 3:
See page 3:
6.
After April 1, except under binding early decision plans, every applicant should be free to accept a new offer from a law school even though a scholarship has been accepted, a deposit has been paid, or a commitment has been made to another school. To provide applicants with an uncoerced choice among various law schools, no excessive nonrefundable deposit should be required solely to maintain a place in the class.

Probably. Either way, I think we'll hear back from Yale soon, i.e., probably within the next couple of [business] days.bethanyrose09 wrote:If three people on this board have been accepted, and Yale takes around 10 and this only board represents 10% of acceptances, I have a feeling Yale is done accepting.
