That's what I was thinking. The problem with Emory is that everyone is gunning for ATL, and the top 20% also have a shot at NYC. The nice thing about Vanderbilt's OCI is that the range of employers and students is far more geographically diverse, so there are fewer people bidding each market. I think Vandy gives you good reach to Atlanta if you have ties, and then you also have a shot at Nashville. From Emory, I think you're ATL or bust with more competition. Either way, gunning for Atlanta is a nightmare.holepunch wrote:Atlantatransferror wrote:Depends on the market. Could you be more specific?holepunch wrote:Does anyone think it would be beneficial to attend Vandy if the school I've already been accepted to is in the market I would prefer to work? There is certainly an increase in biglaw/clerkships gained by Vandy, but it's likely the result of further reach and placement outside of the SE.
This question is of course contingent on gaining acceptance to Vandy but I do have strong ties to Nashville and stronger ties to the market of the school I deposited at.

My impression based on past individuals was that there was a relatively large class base from out of state who weren't interested in Atlanta. I did however suspect your V reasoning to be the case. Fortunately I'm not biglaw or bust but the option would be nice.

Emory might have a large out-of-state student base, but do you really think they're going to forego bidding Atlanta? They might not prefer ATL, but they will certainly bid and interview with ATL firms as a backup since that's Emory's target market.holepunch wrote:My impression based on past individuals was that there was a relatively large class base from out of state who weren't interested in Atlanta. Re: Vanderbilt Transfer Waiting Thread 2014
Rising 2L at Vandy here. Seems like ATL will be a slaughter at OCI. 15 firms are interviewing with an ATL office - keep in mind that includes firms that only have a satellite office in ATL like Finnegan and Burr & Forman. And a lot of the firms have a very small number of interview slots. For example, Jones Day has 19 slots, and that schedule includes Dallas and Houston in addition to Atlanta. The firms that have more than 19 slots:
Alston & Bird - 38 (multi office schedule)
King & Spalding - 48 (but good luck getting an offer there without stellar grades)
Baker Donelson - 57 (multi office schedule and their ATL only has like 70 attorneys so satellite?)
Bryan Cave - 57 (multi-office)
Every other ATL firm has 19 slots or fewer. And half of our slots are preselect, so really there's only ~9-10 lottery slots for each of those firms. If you want ATL, better mass mail.

Sorry to hear that. I imagine the rest of us will be getting our letters on Monday. Where do you live? I imagine they are pretty much done with decisions since OCI deadline is a week from today, but I'm holding out hope.mandimeoutof10 wrote:Got a rejection by mail today.
