GWU EA/RD Transfer Waiting Thread 2013 Forum

former gw transfer here.. good luck to all!!

can you go into detail about going from 1L to GW? what are the classes like, students, profs, OCI, employability...
also, what were your 1L stats and did you apply EA?

edit: actually, it would also be much appreciated if anyone else out there who transferred into GW that could also answer the above questions? ty ty.

I went to a T3/T4 with mediocre grades so don't give up just because you're outside of the top 15% of wherever you go to.

1L to GW
I'd say the first thing I noticed at GW was the size of the classes. I knew the classes are big but man there are so many people in one class. There's almost an undergrad feel to them. The second thing was that people seem to be more active, or maybe just appear to be more active because of the lack of study spaces. There is no cubicle at all, which is really weird.

Classes/Profs
Like I said, huge classes. One great thing about GW is that there are some of my professors are either well respected in the legal industry, judges (i.e. Rader, Essex), statute drafters, and firm partners. This is great because you get to network with them if you choose to do so. Besides that, there are obviously both good and bad professors, just like any other school. You just need to avoid the bad ones and go for the good ones.

OCI/Employment
OCI was okay for me. I didn't get my GW acceptance until the morning of the last day for bidding so I wasn't very prepared for it. That said, I still managed to pull in about 10 interviews. I'm not sure what the average is. Generally though, I'd say GW students fare pretty well, at least among the people that I spoke to. I personally am a part time student. I got a full time job AFTER I transferred here so I'm definitely not complaining.

I'm pretty sure they do. I came from a T3/T4 and was not in the top 10%, though I'm in the part time program. I made sure I emphasized my desire for IP, in my PS. Also I picked the professors who can talk about my desire in IP.

talked to admissions the other day. they said no decisions till first week of May (and that's for EA).

I will add to this: I just spoke w/ admissions... She said "Early may... At least that's what we are telling people."
Not sure what to make of that added part. Fingers crossed for sooner rather than later.

I may be wrong, but when looking at last year's forum, they said the same thing to some people, but still sent out acceptances early April, so hopefully its not true.

so i applied to gwu but not EA, but still early on march 15, do you think it is possible i get a decision around the same time as EA? or probably closer to the may date? just curious.

also applied to georgetown and got that deferral email, any idea if they flatout rejected anyone or did all who apply and didn't get accepted get a deferral? feel like if it is the latter, that's much worse.

this waiting game is awful!

If you didn't apply EA, they will want your second semester grades before you get a decision.
