Didn't everyone? Like most people, I did get into YLS as a 0L, but I just couldn't turn down NYC. And then after awhile in NYC, I figured New Haven would be a nice change of pace.wiglaf1228 wrote:Didn't you get into Yale as a 0L? Or anyone you know there?

Thanks for responding. If you had been motivated to make the connections necessary to be competitive for "feeder" clerkships, do you think you could have done it as a transfer?dbt wrote:Yes. It wasn't very difficult to get to know professors. The best way seems to be RAing because you're in regular contact with the professor and it's not in a group (class) setting.TatteredDignity wrote:Were you informed of your financial aid before you were required to accept?
How far behind were you in terms of getting connected with professors for clerkships, and how difficult was it to catch up?

Re: Yale Transfer Taking Questions
Well, I did make a good connection with a professor known to place into feeders, but I lacked the grades to do it right out of law school. My impression is you need basically perfect grades. I don't know of any transfers doing feeders right out, but I do know of transfers doing great district court clerkships first who are about to apply to appellate.TatteredDignity wrote:Thanks for responding. I imagine no matter how good your connection with a professor, it's also hard to catch up with someone who was in the professor's small group and has had an entire year more than you.

If Yale would have cost you another $20K/yr (or whatever), would you still have transferred?

Re: Yale Transfer Taking Questions
I know Stanford has a separate law-review application exam for transfers and there's no quota; every transfer taking the test who scores above a certain cutoff makes law review.
How does Yale's law-review entrance process compare with Stanford's?

How important is the 250-word essay for transfers? What did you write about?
Also, do you know if the transfer process uses the same type of faculty review that the regular admissions process does?

How large was your scholarship at NYU to begin with? Were you well above both medians at NYU?
And on that note, what do you think you did right at NYU, to get such a high GPA? That's part of the reason I asked the above both medians question.

They don't, I know that. It says on their website that transfer applications are handled by a centralized committee. That's about the only thing I do know.to_transfer_or_not wrote:How important is the 250-word essay for transfers? What did you write about?

Into Yale initially, turned down for NYC, top 5% at NYU but wouldn't transfer to Yale if it cost just 40k (total) more than NYU, anime avatar...dbt wrote:

However brilliant he may be, dbt didn't display the type of decision calculus that others should follow, imo, and this thread feels braggart rather than helpful.

One reading of OP's posts is that he's an idiot. Another reading is that his sarcasm went over your head.Reprisal wrote:Into Yale initially, turned down for NYC, top 5% at NYU but wouldn't transfer to Yale if it cost just 40k (total) more than NYU, anime avatar...

If that's sarcasm, I'd rather be unsophisticated than "get it."

Would I be throwing money away to apply 8/200 from a school 18-20 with a published article as a 1L? I have no real interest or ties to New Haven other than its the place to be for academia.

Just FYI - I wouldn't count on him checking this thread. PM him maybe it will go to his email and he will answer you.lawgrl14 wrote:Would I be throwing money away to apply 8/200 from a school 18-20 with a published article as a 1L? From my impression, you don't need ties to New Haven to get into Yale. Yale is its own tie. And don't worry about staying after you graduate, if you've been to New Haven, you will realize that Yale is the only thing there.
