Transferring to Case Western from a bottom T-100 Forum

I was WELL within the top 5% at a similarly ranked school to OP (near bottom of the T100) and was able to transfer into T6. That said, I was lucky - got only 1 offer after OCI (albeit at a V30 firm). Just goes to show that it is VERY difficult to get a job, and transferring - while generally serving as a great boost to employment prospects - is unpredictable.

OP - you need to aim higher than case. You need to kill it next semester and jump up closer to top 10% of your class. That is very easy to do if you rock second semester given you top 1/3 ranking currently. Good luck.

Yeah, OCI at higher ranked schools is just far and away better. Although Case may have OCI that's an order of magnitude better than the OP's current school, mid T1s are going to have OCI that are twice as good as that, and T20 are going to seem like another planet, at least in terms of interviews available.

The way things stand right now, if you do really well at Case, you'd get access to some pretty good stuff in 2L OCI, but if you are dependent on OCI to get a job and don't want to work in a regional market, you don't want to transfer into schools in the 45-70 range if you can do better. And even then, don't assume OCI will get you anything.

Some schools let you take 1-2 classes during the summer. Rutgers does this, I think.

Rutgers only does one class over the summer. Anyone who would extrapolate a top 1/3 rank from that is way misguided since not even 1/2 the class typically does summer start.

But I'm guessing there are other schools that do an early start that are more than one class.

Many of the Cleveland firms are only hiring a handful of SAs. Some of the biggest players are not even hiring any!

Umm...what? Squire is the only firm I can think of that would fit this and I haven't heard what their doing next summer.

So I am in the top 1/3 of my class after 1 semester at a school ranked near the bottom of the latest US News Top 100. What would be my chances of transferring into Case Western after the 2nd semester if I stay around the top 1/3? Thanks.

There are many unemployed CWRU grads around. You will be screwed come OCI as you are not tested at CWRU, and employers will only have your first set of grades to look at from your TTT.

U should prolly drop out.

I don't really care about OCI. I already have a job upon graduation and my law school tuition is paid for so I am not really too worried about OCIs.

If you already have a job, what's the incentive to transfer? Are you planning to work in Cleveland/Ohio?

if you aren't on a scholarship and have a job, you might as well transfer to the best school you can get into.
