haha...I totally get where you're coming from. Harness the motivation and I'm sure you'll be fine. Law students rarely sniff the GPA cutoff for transferring without figuring out how to take a law school exam. From that point on, it's just a matter of doing your thing to sustain your success. GL with finals, and get off TLS!keg411 wrote:I did, so that's not a worrypatrickd139 wrote:Eh. I guess I just kind of liked the idea of going to a real top school after my first semester grades and it will be a disappointment when/if that possibility is gone.

Re: Anyone care to join me...
It's a weird phenomenon for me.
Even though I know I've outworked a large majority of my class. Even though I know that my LSAT is in the top 10% of my class. Even though I know that I outpaced most of my class last semester. Even though I know that I out-type the majority of my class.
Still, when I walk out of an exam, each member of my class has miraculously transformed into the love-child of O'Connor and Learned Hand.
Same thing happened last semester, too.
But this semester is different. Each exam last semester had something that mitigated my biggest advantage (typing speed). One test was one where the professor graded with a "sniff" test. Another had word limits. Another had an entire portion of the exam that was contract drafting. This semester's exams have no such impediment. But I don't know the information as well as I did last semester. Maybe these two things will even out? Time will tell.

Re: Anyone care to join me...
I've learned feeling you did like shit on an exam really is no indication of how you'll actually do. I remember walking out of my Contracts exam last semester absolutely positive I bombed a whole section. Got the second highest grade in my class, and only missed the top spot by one point. And what dinged me wasn't that section I thought I failed, it was forgetting to say "Goods are anything movable at the time of sale." /facepalm Since we're graded on a curve, and if you're up there in your class rank there's a good reason for it, if you forgot something I'd imagine there's a good chance a lot of other people did too.
That said, I definitely feel the same way as most people. Getting a lower GPA this semester will be utterly unacceptable. Hell, I'll be mildly disappointed if I get anything less than a 4.0. Which means I should probably get off TLS and back to studying...

Re: Anyone care to join me...
Con law went pretty well. The last time I felt that comfortable during an exam, I got the highest grade.
Most of the multiple choice questions consisted of a half page to a page long fact pattern, with 5 possible answers. Usually 2 could be eliminated outright, as not even on point. 1 answer would be a little closer, then there would be 2 that were nearly indistinguishable, differing only by degree. And then there were a few where the right answer was "none of the above," or "both A and C are correct" - at least I hope so.
Pretty frustrating since if you're off by just a little, there's no partial credit for being mostly right or overlooking one critical word in the fact pattern.
That said, I think I did well. Now that I'm halfway through with finals, I'm starting to feel a little less pressured and stressed.

I guess that works. Seems like it could have easily been made into a normal issue spotter with fact patterns like that though. Lazy prof?missinglink wrote:Most of the multiple choice questions consisted of a half page to a page long fact pattern, with 5 possible answers.

Lazy, I don't know, but perhaps frustrated. Some of his old memos that are attached to old exams bemoan errors in grammar, time spent discussing issues not at issue, and people who just write a treatise on the law. About 3-4 years ago he switched things up. If I had to guess, he just got tired of reading bad essays. And maybe he came to the conclusion he could still differentiate the class without going through the hassle of reading long answers.quiver wrote:I guess that works. There is still an essay format, but with a very low word count, to prevent people from doing a memory dump.

Re: Anyone care to join me...
I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. I feel so much pressure this semester. My profs have all been very weird and different than last semester. Non-traditional exams. I feel sick about my performance on all of my exams. Some I know I missed issues on, others I'm not sure how I did but I don't feel great.
Like the poster who said the same thing earlier...I feel like anything less than what I got last semester will be a failure. And based on my feeling about these exams, I won't do anywhere near as well as I did...
I know worrying like this is pointless, but it's nice to vent a little.

I agree with every word in this post. My professors this semester gave non-traditional exams too and I know I missed a few issues on my last exam. Re: Anyone care to join me...
How's this for "non-traditional?"
25% of my CivPro exam was "analyze/advocate" for the following anaology:
Twombly and Iqbal are to pleadings as Celotex was to ____________
Yeah. Completely forgot what Celotex was about... Though I did make a very well educated guess and got it right (Summary Judgment), but couldn't really write a good essay on a guess. Thankfully, it's only a 2 credit course so as long as I did well on the rest (pretty sure I did) and get some partial credit, it shouldn't screw me over too much.

My aspirations for transferring to HCCN this summer are quickly morphing into praying that I can stay in the top 10% and get a good job in the Fall at my current school.
Exams. Total mindfuck.

Trying to make a lateral move back home, so hopefully I have some room for error, but I've started thinking the worst of things now that grades should be out very soon.

LOL, no a B won't prevent you from transferring. Top 10% will get you CCN.Kilpatrick wrote:Turns out my freakout was semi-warranted. Will one bad grade (B) keep me from transferring if I'm still in the top 10% overall at a T25? Was looking at HYS, maybe CCN

Ugh. I'm so petrified of K's and Property (all MC for prop.)
After K's I actually went home and thought about looking up when K's is offered again in case I failed and have to re-take to graduate. That's how awful I think I did.
the nightmares are getting worse.

Does anyone know what is the required GPA/class rank for transfer to UVA from W&M/W&L? I heard that being a state resident, which I am, is the most important thing, but my GPA has also dropped this semester...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
