I'm at CCN, goodish grades, missed LR, completely shut out of my primary market (NOT Chicago or NYC)-- where I need to be for family. I don't have the luxury of praying I'll magically land a job halfway across the country. That ship has sailed. Quite clearly, coming to my current school was a mistake. Most of the people on this board do well in school and the investment pays off for them-- hence the obvious skepticism in this thread, or whenever anyone discusses transferring. But understand that for those of us who weren't so lucky to be in the top 5% and aren't 23 year olds with no responsibilities, even going to a "good" school can turn out disastrous. So an extra year of tuition and having to "explain" things to employers doesn't constitute much of a hardship when your alternative is having to leave school altogether.PDaddy wrote:concurrent fork wrote:I really doubt that a school worth transferring to would let you do this. Many state on their websites that you may only transfer to begin your second year. Even if it is technically possible:
1. At least some T14s (CLS comes to mind) explicitly require an addendum explaining why you have earned more than a maximum number of credit hours. "Because I already did 2L" is probably not convincing to an adcomm.
2. If you somehow were allowed to participate in OCI, employers will look at you cross-eyed when you hand them a resume with 3 law schools listed.
3. Absorbing 4 years of tuition, including what must be at least 3 years of sticker price (barring need-based aid), is a poor financial decision IMO.

You need to visit at a school in your hometown, not transfer. If you think transferring will get you magical do-over at OCI, it won't. But visiting will show just how serious you are about working in the area and give you an opportunity to network locally.owlfredo wrote:I'm at CCN, goodish grades, missed LR, completely shut out of my primary market (NOT Chicago or NYC)-- where I need to be for family. This. You get a CCN degree and the opportunity to spend your last year where you need to be. Makes much more sense than trying to restart 2L.Renzo wrote:You need to visit at a school in your hometown, not transfer. If you think transferring will get you magical do-over at OCI, it won't. Problem is that I doubt HYS would buy this if that was your main goal. Let me know what they say, x.
