I interpreted his Loyola comment to be him asking if I had applied there initially, as a 0L. I don't know if he's suggesting I transfer there.A'nold wrote:Dante- you actually think a top 1/4 student at the University of Minnesota would be better off career wise transferring to Loyola and paying sticker if he wants CA? That would be a foolhardy recommendation at best and the worst mistake of his life at worst. Better to stay at top 1/4 at a top 20ish school and try to work some magic either right out of school or a few years after graduation and a clerkship or firm job. You seem to troll very hard for whatever school YOU are attending dude.

I would talk to your peers and OCS at Minnesota and ask about people who went there and ended up in CA, and how they did it.

Because employment statistics for law schools are not at all misleading.General Tso wrote:Don't worry...you'll be fine! 98% employed at graduation, remember?yo! wrote:General Tso wrote:I agree. Re: Minnesota or UC Davis
It wouldn't be a bad move if he wanted to come back to Los Angeles. Also, he would have a shot at a journal at Loyola, whereas it does not look like he will have that opportunity at Davis. If he wants to be in Northern CA, it would made no sense to go to Loyola. But this guy is from Los Angeles and presumably wants to end up here. It's a moot point. The deadline has passed. Besides, I'd rather not have the competition.
I think the best choice for OP is to stay Minn. Especially since Davis screws over transfers by not giving them a fair shot at a journal.

They are generally misleading, but UC Davis outperforming Boalt and a host of other T14s is most definitely accurate. It's the 5th (or 6th depending on how you rank Irvine) best school in CA.rangermice wrote:

Davis only placed 12% in biglaw, Hastings placed 14
Um, ya, ok, who gives a shit?
2. that's fine, I expect shitlaw as well, but when I see people mindlessly parroting USNWR and buying into BS statistics, I am going to call them out on it.

lol...Was it really 12%? I completely made those numbers up. On a side note: I think I've found a TLS nemesisGeneral Tso wrote:1. expect that 12% to go downyo! wrote:Don't worry...you'll be fine! 98% employed at graduation, remember? How can you answer his post sarcastically while simultaneously missing the fact that his post is also sarcastic. lulz at thatBecause employment statistics for law schools are not at all misleading. And Tso: when were both debt ridden and working in shitlaw, do you think it will really matter if Hastings set up a few more firms at their dog and pony show that is OCI? Re: Minnesota or UC Davis
You have connections to CA, which is what employers will be looking for. I don't think it's at all wise to give up top-25% rank to transfer to a peer school. Stay at UMN and just put in legwork on your own to find something in CA for next summer. It means blowing off OCI (to some degree), but I think it's the smarter move.

Re: Minnesota or UC Davis
Thought it was time for an update.
I have officially not made it onto the Minnesota Law Review.
My options appear to be:
1. Minnesota, on a secondary journal.
2. UC Davis, I think it's easy to be a staffer on a secondary journal, and not sure how their moot court works

Re: Minnesota or UC Davis
If you want to be in CA then you need to start making CA connections. Networking will be the most important aspect of your career search, especially in this economy. Law Review is important, but it is not the only thing that employers look at. Transfer to UCD, get on a journal and network.
