I thought Topic Access, if successful, was something that kicked in in your third year, such that if you made LR, you could quit your secondary. Or something like that.

Oh. No. You're a member of the journal immediately with Topic Access. Now, if you don't make it on until April or May, there won't be any work to do. And, for CJIL anyway, unless you're on the board, you don't *have* to work your 3L year (though, unlike Law Review, if you choose not to, your name does not stay on the Masthead, so your resume can only indicate 1 year membership).traydeuce wrote:I thought Topic Access, if successful, was something that kicked in in your third year, such that if you made LR, you could quit your secondary. That said, board decisions are made in March for secondaries, and you can't quit after accepting a position if you then get on to Topic Access. Honestly, I just don't know how Law Review Topic Access plays with secondaries--again, I don't even know if you're allowed to do it. I can't imagine that anyone actually does it, so eh. The only way it would be worth it would be if you can make the December deadline to be able to get a board position on Law Review--and making that deadline is a nearly impossible task.

I'm guessing no one who was still waiting has heard anything? I'm pretty surprised to have not heard one way or the other at this point.

deposit deadline for those who have been accepted is today. it's likely we'll receive our decisions tomorrow or on friday. they probably just put a bunch of applications aside in case they get a lot of withdrawals.Lawrence wrote:I'm guessing no one who was still waiting has heard anything? I would imagine that they already have a list in the order in which they would start accepting people for open slots, and thus would further imagine that they call people this afternoon. No?

Chicago has broken its twitter silence, and as many expected, things seem to be hinging on those deposits (withdraw, withdraw!):
We plan to release all remaining decisions on transfer applications within the next few days. Thank you for your patience!

No... if you search around you can even find other people who attended my school attesting to the veracity of various bits of traydeuce lore, e.g. the rolls (which I never thought was such a ridiculous or incredible story - I mean, I finished the exam with an hour to spare, thought it was very good, took about 20 minutes leaving, getting the rolls/iced tea, returning, came back and checked the thing for mistakes while eating the rolls, and did, indeed, get an A. We all knew what the one policy question would be going in, and the rest was mostly very straightforward if you were familiar with the Rules of Civil Procedure.)
Anyway, back to the topic, some of us will be admitted in the next couple days, which is cheering.

So what's everybody drinking tonight? I'm thinking rubbing alcohol should be sufficient to destroy the part of my brain where dreams of UC are stored.
