Your odds are "very good" at clerking for a district court judge without law review and being outside the top 10% at a tier 3 law school (when, at a time like now, odds at a district court clerkship from top of the class at a t14 aren't all that good)? This I don't believe, unless you just happen to know a district court judge. Not trying to be a dick, but it's just completely unrealistic to say your odds are very good at a district court.A'nold wrote:Tired. Just got back from a week long vacation in CA visiting family. I am still patiently waiting and was told no news was good news. I've basically decided to go with my current school over the t2 (if I'm accepted this week, obviously) and would go to UW in a heartbeat. UW or bust.![]()
I seem to have been called a douche, a hypocrite for apparently going against my "anti-elitist beliefs," and that my career is in danger (or whatever was said). I will address all of these in turn soon. I'll just speak about the third quickly: My career prospects are actually very good, in about everything but biglaw or a COA clerkship, the former of which I'd pass over even if offered, as I've basically said since I registered for this site.
A'nold: Congratulations on UW! You are amazing, seriously! Forum

Lol at all the steam and vitriol out of left field in this thread. Not sure why people bring frustration from their own transfer cycle into a thread about someone else.

Re: Predict A'nold's First Acceptance
Spyke: I meant federal anything clerkship, I just misspoke. I will try to clerk at the state level or just go right into PI work or prosecution. With my rank at my school, these are very realistic possibilities. I want to open up my own firm a few years out of school. There is a lot of negativity about having such plans on this site, but after speaking to many attorneys this summer, it is actually a very good choice, depending on what type of law you want to practice.
Anyway, to update:
I still have a shot at UW, but I start school next Monday (Monday after tomorrow) so I'm in my school's town looking for housing, which, I might add, is HORRIFIC this late in the game. Finding an apartment with a week left in a small town is no picnic. I was told that I should know about UW by next Friday. I would pack up, eat my deposit, break my lease, etc. if UW says yes.
For those looking to transfer next year with #'s similar to mine: Don't view my cycle as what will happen to you. There were many things that could have turned schools off of my apps. I did not have "clean" apps by any means. I took a chance on my ps and it didn't pay off, I had a downward trend in GPA going into the transfer season, etc. Even one of my LOR's might have spoken negatively about me b/c my school is somewhat unfriendly to people trying to transfer out. You never know. In fact, a classmate of mine was accepted to a top 30 school with grades and class rank worse than mine.
Also: I still think that going to a t2-4 school with $ and at schools that dominate a certain market can be a good idea for a lot of people. I wanted to transfer for personal reasons not all that related to career prospects as you will see if you look through some of my past posts. In fact, given my career goals, most would have thought it foolish (and many did express their concern) to transfer to a top 30 and pay sticker when I wasn't even looking to OCI for a job. Do what is best for you and don't listen to elitism, as long as it really is elitism speaking and not people just being realistic.
Thanks for the support everyone, I will be just fine.

I know this will sound diehard... but you should try calling University of Washington and try to squeeze a response out of them... At the very least it will help you sleep at night...

In all honesty, trying to force a response is something you do when you have other options (because you need to make a decision with your other acceptances). I can't think of any way to justify it when you have no other options.

I really don't think I could say it any better than this. Congratulations to A'nold, my oldest and first friend on TLS. May you prosper there, and be so ridiculously happy that perfect strangers have to smile and ask what phenomenal event has just befallen you.
