This thread still isn't as bad as the Stanford vs. Harvard one:

http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 4&start=25

They're arguing about percentages and statistical variances over there.

i dont know... i think arguing over the definitions of words is pretty good.

now if we argued over the level of scrutiny we are using to argue before actually arguing... well then we'd be before the supreme court.

I wonder how the fordham part-timers fare against full-timers from schools with similar lsat/gpa to the fordham part-timers. That is probably the best comparison to see if columbia "discriminating" solely because of the part-time nature of the program. Although even that would have other factors (the quality of the education at a given school, etc.)

Oddly enough, the Judge I intern for randomly said yesterday how he "just throws Fordham applications [he] receives in the trash." I hadn't asked, and I don't know why he has that particular point of view, lol. I love that guy...

Anyone know what the deal is with housing and the wait list?

If you're currently on the wait list, you'll be receiving an email in the next few days that asks you to update your application with any new information, whether you've found any place else, and whether you still want to be on the list. After that, by July 27th they email those on the waitlist again with specific information as to their particular number. Waitlist updates can be made until October, and considering transfers need to be on campus by August 9th, that could be a problem, lol.

Is it safe to say that from here on out there will be just rejects/wait-lists? I didn't even realize there was a W/L for transfers.

VictoryFord, to answer your question, the stats (LSAT/GPA) for Fordham PT and Brooklyn FT are nearly identical (with the slight edge going to Fordham PT). I think most people on here would agree that someone who's top 1-2% his/her class at Brooklyn FT should have a very good chance of getting Columbia or NYU. I don't know if I'd call it PT discrimination, but I find it very odd that he was rejected.

I think he was referring to a housing waitlist. The question is whether from here on there will just be rejects, a question on which I'd be interested in hearing some informed predictions.

I'm low T1, 3%, and have been complete since late June. I've been hoping for Columbia, but am running into a bit of a pickle. My deposit (which I think makes the commitment binding) at NYU is due tomorrow afternoon. I'm extremely thrilled with NYU, but I'd really like to know my options.

What's the deposit? If it's $500 to $700, you may want to just take the hit. Let me put it this way, I had to pay $6400 to GW because I transfered after I had planned on taking 4 credits for an outside placement course for my summer internship. Four credits that don't transfer. Which means I just paid them $6400 for writing two journal entries. Still decided to transfer to Columbia.

Risk taking the hit I say.

Completely understand your position, and if it were just a matter of money, I'd agree. Along with the deposit, I'm supposed to certify that I'm attending. The specific language is something along the lines of "withdrawn from all schools to which I have been accepted," which would clearly not include Columbia, but I think the overall meaning of the form is that I should back off from everywhere else. I guess I'm just not sure.

Perhaps they didn't need any fresh rolls from the bakery. Regardless, GULC is still bad-ass.

Inability to debate the merits of a position without hurling insults is not an attractive trait.

We know that transfer students frequently perform about as well at their new schools as at the schools they left, reflecting established findings that LSAT/GPA have only a modest correlation with law school performance. Were it otherwise, even great students would probably founder at schools with much higher entering medians. This makes it harder to argue that successful PT students would have been less so had they been in the full time program, if this is the implication of your earlier argument. The difference in entering numbers simply isn't that great. I was 59th percentile for PT, and would have been 43rd for FT, by index number, as calculated by YCRevolution during the development of Law School Predictor. I chose to attend PT and am happy with that decision.

This discussion is unlikely to be of further benefit to CLS transfers or transfer hopefuls, so I will leave you. I raised the issue and others are welcome to explore it or not.

I wish the best of luck to those still waiting-- one of my very closest friends applied to CLS (not from Fordham) and is also hoping for a speedy acceptance. I hope you all get into the schools you are waiting on.

Well, you apparently aren't coming back, but I still feel as though I should address that I wasn't "hurling insults" at all. It was just a random/weird coincedence, and I thought that I had inferred that I definitely thought the Judge's position strange (I just wrote it off as an individual quirk). I liked Fordham enough to apply very early on when I was a 0L, so you're off-base with that assertion.

It does not reflect that I have been rejected or that a decision was rendered either way.

Accepted via email at 2:30pm today. #1 with a 4.0 at a school in the 50's. Went complete Monday (my undergrad Dean's Cert held me up).

Congrats!

I'm really nervous because my undergrad dean's cert held me up as well. I called last monday and a nice lady in admissions told me that they have everything in my file. So, it seems like it just needs to be processed. Waiting for it to simply be processed makes me a bit restless, especially because it's now so late in rolling admissions and columbia is incredibly difficult to get into in the first place. Seems like insta-ding at this point seeing as many here are under the impression that they are slowing down in their admissions cycle

I was just wondering why people would transfer to Columbia after bids had closed for EIP? Do they unlock your symplicty account and let you bid?
Yes. The deadline for transfers is until next Thursday, apparently.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
